Dorffest Surheim

Club Festival on Surheim Village Square

The Dorffest in Surheim is a classic Bavarian club festival, supported by the Schützengesellschaft Dorflinde Surheim e.V. together with the local music band and other Surheim clubs. The shooting club explicitly designates the festival day in its internal club calendar: "Setting up shooting tent for Dorffest" and participation in the festival operations from the late afternoon.

Surheim in the Berchtesgadener Land

Surheim is a district of the municipality Saaldorf-Surheim (Berchtesgadener Land district) in southeastern Upper Bavaria. The municipality is located between Freilassing and Laufen, not far from the Austrian border and the Salzach river. With around 7,000 inhabitants at the municipal level, it is a typical small municipality in the Salzach-Saalach region.

Music Band, Marksmen, and Village Community

The Musikkapelle Surheim traditionally opens the musical part of the festival in the late afternoon with a concert on the village square, before the festival evening continues with convivial get-togethers over snacks, beer, and wine. The Schützengesellschaft Dorflinde Surheim is a central player in the festival with its shooting tent – the shooting tent is traditionally used for catering and shooting activities.

Bavarian Village Tradition

The Dorffest is part of a long tradition of Upper Bavarian club festivals: supported by voluntarily active club members, financed by the club's own income, and aimed at the village community and their families. The event is not a major tourist attraction, but it is of high regional cultural value: it shows the village life of a Bavarian place in the summer months in an unadulterated form.
