Two days of Dark-Wave, Synth-Pop and Electro-Industrial by the Karlsbad lake near Halle — Nitzer Ebb and Covenant as headliners
There are those rare kinds of festivals where the venue itself is a major draw. The Eastside Festival in Halle (Saale) is one of them: the venue is Karlsbad, a 60-hectare former open-cast mine lake near the Angersdorfer Teiche, south of the city. Sandy beach, crystal-clear water, vast green areas — and in the middle of it all, a festival with two stages serving up hard Synth-Pop and Dark-Wave from Friday to Saturday. In the summer of 2026, in its 4th edition, the festival is on its way to becoming a fixture in the German Dark-Electronic scene.
The idea is captivating: you arrive on Friday afternoon, set up your tent on the campsite, jump into the lake, dry off in the sun, and dance in the evening to bands that are heavyweights in the international Synth/Wave scene. Stage 1 (main stage) and Stage 2 are positioned so that the sound conditions are excellent without the acts overlapping. An extensive dance floor, many food stalls (including vegan/vegetarian options), cocktail bars — and water always in sight. A festival concept that is unique in this form in Germany.
The musical program focuses on Synth-Pop, Dark-Wave, Electro-Industrial, and EBM — genres that emerged in the 80s from bands like Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, Depeche Mode, Front Line Assembly and today maintain a loyal, international fan community. The Eastside Festival has consistently specialized in this spectrum, bringing a carefully curated mix of established legends and new acts each year.
Headlining shows 2026: On Friday, Nitzer Ebb — the British EBM pioneers who co-founded Electronic Body Music with tracks like "Murderous" and "Join in the Chant". On Saturday, Covenant, the Swedish synth veterans with hits like "Dead Stars" and "Bullet". Plus headliner slots for In Strict Confidence, Beborn Beton, Solitary Experiments, Black Nail Cabaret, Priest, Devision Redux, Auger, Traitrs, and other bands from the Dark-Electronic scene — a total of around 18 acts.
Halle (Saale) — a university city and district-free city in the state of Saxony-Anhalt — is not by chance the location for such a distinctive festival. The city has a strong alternative scene with clubs like Stadtgarten, Turm, and Goldene Rose. The Eastside Festival is an extension of this spirit into an open-air format. The lake itself was created after the renaturation of a brown coal mine — again, this typical Saxony-Anhalt phenomenon: recreation from industry, a showcase from a wound.
The 4th edition builds on the success of previous years, offering a high-quality mix of genre legends and new acts. Camping included, access to the bathing lake, two stages.
