Up to 25 free concerts in the city's most beautiful squares
The Darmstadt Promenade Concerts are one of Hesse's most traditional open-air concert series. From May 10 to September 20, 2026, around 25 free concerts will be spread across seven open-air stages throughout the city. Admission is free everywhere.
The concerts take place at neighborhood-oriented venues – each stage has its own character:
The program combines diverse styles: brass bands, jazz ensembles, salsa bands, gospel choirs, as well as chamber orchestras and string quartets. The spectrum ranges from professional musicians to ambitious amateur ensembles from Darmstadt's associations.
The concert series is coordinated by the Music Office in the Cultural Office of the Science City of Darmstadt. Local associations, initiatives, and volunteers support the concerts on-site – turning a municipal event series into a truly neighborhood-focused format.
The idea: No central festival location, but concerts everywhere in the city. Residents can walk or cycle to the nearest stage and experience their city musically. This enlivens urban spaces and promotes encounters.
The Darmstadt Promenade Concerts date back to a tradition from the 1970s when the Darmstadt Cultural Office started the concerts in the concert shell in Herrngarten. Over the decades, the concept has decentralized – today, seven stages are spread across the city, and the musical spectrum has also expanded: from originally brass music to today's jazz, salsa, gospel, and chamber music.
The 2026 Promenade Concerts start on May 10 with an opening concert (typically in Herrngarten) and end on September 20. Up to 25 concerts will be spread across the seven stages from May to September.
The complete 2026 program with dates, times, venues, and artists will be published by the Darmstadt Music Office. Program flyers available at the Tourist Info and on darmstadt.de.
Free admission to all concerts. Full program with all dates available at darmstadt.de/promenadenkonzerte.
The venues are spread across the science city of Darmstadt. All easily accessible by tram and bus – HEAG mobilo offers the connections. By car: A5 Frankfurt–Heidelberg, exit Darmstadt-Mitte or Darmstadt-Süd.
Admission to all concerts is free.
