City-wide Open-Air Concert Series

Seven Stages Across Darmstadt
The concerts take place at neighborhood-oriented venues – each stage has its own character:
- Concert shell in Herrngarten – the classic in the city center
- Concert stage in Orangeriegarten – baroque garden in Bessungen
- Canopy in Park Rosenhöhe – Art Nouveau park
- Kiosk 1975 in the Postsiedlung – modern neighborhood meeting point
- Brentanowiese by the lake in Kranichstein – recreational area
- Haus der Vereine in Eberstadt
- Other smaller stages in the city area
Musical Diversity
The program combines diverse styles: brass bands, jazz ensembles, salsa bands, gospel choirs, as well as chamber orchestras and string quartets. The spectrum ranges from professional musicians to ambitious amateur ensembles from Darmstadt's associations.
Civic Participation
The concert series is coordinated by the Music Office in the Cultural Office of the Science City of Darmstadt. Local associations, initiatives, and volunteers support the concerts on-site – turning a municipal event series into a truly neighborhood-focused format.
Neighborhood Focus as a Concept
The idea: No central festival location, but concerts everywhere in the city. Residents can walk or cycle to the nearest stage and experience their city musically. This enlivens urban spaces and promotes encounters.
Tradition Since the 1970s
The Darmstadt Promenade Concerts date back to a tradition from the 1970s when the Darmstadt Cultural Office started the concerts in the concert shell in Herrngarten. Over the decades, the concept has decentralized – today, seven stages are spread across the city, and the musical spectrum has also expanded: from originally brass music to today's jazz, salsa, gospel, and chamber music.
