Traditional market in the Rheiderland village of Jemgum with clubs, showmen, music, and sports
Jemgum is a municipality in the Rheiderland between the Ems river and the Dutch border. In the summer, the Müggenmarkt brings together local clubs, showmen, and the population in the market square and surrounding streets. Unlike purely commercial annual fairs, the Müggenmarkt is distinctly driven by clubs – sports clubs, fire brigades, music groups, heritage associations, and schools shape the program and contribute many of the events.
Over three days at the beginning of August, several program zones are created: rides and showman stalls for families, a stage with concerts, an exhibition area for the clubs, sports demonstrations, competitions, as well as the large festival tent with catering and dance evenings. Families will find activities for children and a classic market atmosphere, especially in the afternoons.
The Müggenmarkt is part of a series of summer markets that shape the folk festival culture of the Rheiderland and East Frisia every year. For the residents of Jemgum, it is the most important club festival of the year. The Müggenmarkt holds a firm position in the market calendar and is regularly documented by the showmen's association.
In recent years, the market date has varied slightly within the month of August. For 2026, the exact program times will be announced in advance by the municipality and the organizing committee.
The Müggenmarkt 2026 continues the decades-long tradition of a club-driven summer folk festival in Jemgum. Opening on Friday evening, continuous market and festival tent operation on Saturday and Sunday, winding down on Sunday evening. In previous years, dates in the second third of August were also indicated — the final decision rests with the local organizing committee.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizing committee in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Likely Friday, August 7 to Sunday, August 9, 2026 (date according to the showmen's association). Alternative date in some sources August 15–16, 2026.
Market square and town center Jemgum, 26844.
Free admission. Rides and food according to showmen's price lists.
By car via the country roads of the Rheiderland; regional bus lines of the Leer district.
