Christopher Street Day for the Nordoberpfalz – Visibility for TINQ
CSD Weiden is an important platform for queer visibility in the Nordoberpfalz – a region where LGBTIQ* issues are traditionally less present than in the Bavarian major cities of Munich or Nuremberg. With a demonstration, street festival, and political speeches, CSD sends a clear signal for diversity, equality, and the protection of queer lifestyles.
The 2026 motto is a deliberate response to movements in the USA attempting to remove the 'T' (trans*) and 'I' (inter) from the LGBTIQ* acronym. The organisers clearly oppose any divisive strategy and focus on the reality of life for trans*, inter, and non-binary individuals (TINQ people).
According to the HAY study by the Bavarian Youth Council, 78.7% of young TINQ individuals experience critically limited well-being, 72.7% report their identity being questioned, and 71.5% experience deliberate misgendering. These figures lend urgency to the 2026 CSD motto.
Weiden in der Oberpfalz is a district-free city with around 43,000 inhabitants in northeastern Bavaria, located in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district. The city is known for its well-preserved historic old town, the Old Town Hall, St. Michael's Parish Church, and as the birthplace of composer Max Reger. The park named after him forms the natural stage for the CSD finale.
CSD Weiden is a collaboration between Kunterbunt Amberg e.V., the queer association of the Oberpfalz based in Amberg, and Linkswerk Weiden, a local political initiative. The combination of queer self-organisation and left-wing political networking shapes the character of CSD: political, solidarity-based, anti-fascist, and consistently intersectional.
CSD Weiden 2026 sends a clear signal for queer visibility in the Nordoberpfalz on Saturday, July 18, 2026. The demonstration starts at 3:00 PM at JUZ Weiden (Youth Centre) with opening statements and assembly of the colourful parade.
From around 4:00 PM, the CSD parade will move through the Weiden city centre, reaching its finale in Max-Reger-Park. There, the street festival will begin with a stage programme, speeches, queer music, information stands from queer organisations in the Oberpfalz and Bavaria, as well as vegan and non-vegan food options.
The motto »Queer must stand together – No LGB without the T« places solidarity with trans*, inter, and non-binary people at the centre and clearly positions itself against any division within the queer movement.
