Pride Parade and Cultural Festival in Mittelholstein
Christopher Street Day (CSD) is the German term for Pride — the annual demonstration for the rights and visibility of the LGBTQ+ community. CSD Neumünster is one of the oldest and most regular Pride events in the region between Hamburg and Kiel, consciously positioning itself as a demonstration and cultural festival in one. For one day, Neumünster, a city in the district of Neumünster (independent city) in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, becomes the queer-political focal point of the region.
CSD Neumünster operates in two phases:
The CSD is organized by the queer-feminist group Bunt.Queer.Wir. The event is supported by, among others, the Nordkirche (Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany) — a remarkable commitment from the major Protestant church to queer rights, manifested on CSD day through its own services and a booth on the festival grounds. The counseling center cara*SH (for prostitutes and their life worlds in Schleswig-Holstein) is also a co-organizer.
CSD Neumünster explicitly sees itself as a political event — not just a "festival." Depending on the year, topics include the reform of the Transsexuals Act, protection against workplace discrimination, violence against queer individuals, and visibility in rural areas. The speeches at the opening in Rencks Park address these issues annually.
The CSD atmosphere in Neumünster is familial — unlike mega-CSDs (Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne) with hundreds of thousands of participants, many things here are more personal. You'll experience the event as a mix of a political rally, festival vibes, and a family reunion for the queer community of Mittelholstein.
CSD Neumünster 2026 follows the established structure: political gathering, demonstration, cultural festival. The opening speeches address current queer-political topics, with an atmosphere that is both serious and celebratory.
A detailed program will be published approximately 4 weeks in advance by Bunt.Queer.Wir. Based on past events, it typically follows this structure:
Free admission for the demonstration and cultural festival. Food and drinks available on-site at standard prices. Donations for organizers Bunt.Queer.Wir and cara*SH are welcome.
By train — Neumünster Hbf is directly accessible from Hamburg (35 min.) and Kiel (20 min.). From the station, it's a 10-minute walk to Rencks Park / Klosterinsel.
Free for the demonstration and cultural festival. Donations for Bunt.Queer.Wir and cara*SH are welcome.
Family-friendly atmosphere despite the political character. Pride flags and rainbow accessories are welcome. A place where young queer people from the Mittelholstein province often experience community for the first time.
