Day of Urban Development Funding – A Nationwide Initiative

The Day of Urban Development Funding has been held annually nationwide in May since 2015. It highlights how federal, state, and local governments jointly invest in inner cities. In Wallerfangen – a municipality in the Saarlouis district – the day in 2026 coincides with a special event: the first public tour of the renovated town hall at Fabrikplatz.

The Renovated Town Hall as the Festival Centerpiece

The Wallerfangen town hall underwent renovation for several years. During the construction phase, the municipal administration resided in the Haus Christophorus. In 2026, the renovation will be completed, and the Construction Site Festival on May 9 offers citizens the exclusive opportunity to be the first to visit the newly renovated building. The renovation is supported by KERNPLAN GmbH, a Saarland-based firm specializing in urban development funding.

Motto: Preserving History. Shaping the Future.

Under this motto, the town hall project aligns with the Saarland tradition of industrial heritage valorization: Wallerfangen was once a center for Faiencerie production (French earthenware manufactory), which shaped the economic profile of the region. The town hall at Fabrikplatz is a reminder of this tradition – the renovation combines historical substance with modern functionality.

Music, Food, and Bouncy Castle

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wallerfangen associations will offer Saarland dishes and drinks at Fabrikplatz. The music club "Concordia" Wallerfangen – celebrating its 175th anniversary in 2026 – will provide musical accompaniment. For children, there will be a bouncy castle and small hands-on activities. The mayor and the municipal council will lead tours of the town hall and answer questions.

Wallerfangen in the Saar Loop Region

Wallerfangen is located in the Saarlouis district, on the edge of the Saar Loop region (Saarschleifenland). The municipality, with its nine districts, is characterized by its Saarland earthenware history and a strong network of local associations. The Construction Site Festival is a rare opportunity to experience Saarland's modernization efforts firsthand.
