FK Clausen as the organizing club

FK Clausen is the football club of the village of Clausen, a municipality in the Gräfensteiner Land. Like many smaller clubs in the region, FK organizes its own club fair: it organizes the program, handles the catering, coordinates setup and dismantling, and collects the revenue that benefits the club's treasury. This self-sufficiency is a prerequisite for the survival of small sports clubs in rural Palatinate.

Sports grounds as the festival backdrop

The venue is the FKC grounds on the outskirts of Clausen. During the Kerwe, the sports grounds become the festival backdrop: the grandstand becomes the festival tent, the club room becomes the catering lounge, and the pitch becomes the dance floor. This typically Palatinate fusion of sport and tradition gives the club fair its own character and distinguishes it from the classic village fairs in the market square.

Classic Kerwe program

The program follows the Palatinate Kerwe tradition: festival opening on Saturday evening with dancing, musical brunch on Sunday, club lunch, Kerwe parade and Kerweredd (Kerwe speech), convivial closing on Monday and Tuesday. A tradition that is celebrated in almost every Palatinate village, yet has its own unique flavor in each place.

Catering and conviviality

The culinary side follows Palatinate tradition: Saumagen (pork stomach stuffed with meat and bread), Bratwurst (fried sausage), steaks from the grill, Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Wurstsalat (sausage salad), fries. Accompanied by draft beer, Palatinate wine, Federweißer (seasonal in October), Schorle (mixed drink, usually wine or juice with sparkling water). Club members cook, serve, and clear away – volunteer work that makes the festival possible.

Clausen in the Gräfensteiner Land

Clausen is located in the Gräfensteiner Land, the part of the Palatinate between Pirmasens and the Pfälzerwald forest, which derives its name from the medieval Gräfenstein castle in Merzalben. The region cultivates a distinct club culture – the Clauser Kerwe is an expression of this.
