Light Art in a Botanical World Heritage Site
The Botanical Garden Berlin in Dahlem (Steglitz-Zehlendorf district), with its 43 hectares and around 20,000 plant species, is one of the most important botanical gardens in the world. In winter, when the plants are dormant and the garden normally becomes quieter, another actor has taken center stage since 2016: light. The two-kilometer circular route becomes a spectacle of colorful LED trees, light tunnels, laser choreographies, and illuminated sculptures.
What Makes the Evening Special
Christmas Garden is more than a Christmas market with fairy lights: the individual stations are independent art installations, often with synchronized music. Choreographed water fountains dance to classical or modern pieces, laser beams draw lines through old trees, and light projections transform the glasshouses into fairytale backdrops. Every year, new installations are developed and combined with classics, so that regular visitors can also discover something new.
Culinary Stops Along the Way
Food stalls are scattered along the circular route, offering mulled wine, punch, roasted almonds, bratwurst, crêpes, and vegetarian snacks. Seating and heating facilities invite visitors to linger. A complete circuit takes about 60 to 90 minutes without long breaks – with culinary stops and photo opportunities, you should plan for about two hours.
Experience Berlin in Winter
Since its first Berlin edition in 2016, Christmas Garden has become a fixture in Berlin's winter tourism. Those planning a visit to the capital during Advent or between the years often combine the light show with a walk through the Dahlem village, a visit to the Museum of European Cultures, or a mulled wine at one of the classic Berlin Christmas markets.
Christmas Garden Berlin — edition 2026
The eleventh Berlin edition of Christmas Garden offers a newly curated circular route with popular audience favorites and several new installations. As in previous years, selected areas of the Botanical Garden – paths, lawns, old trees, fountains, and elements of the glasshouses – are illuminated with colorful light, lasers, and synchronized music. Choreographed water fountains, light tunnels, and large-scale projections are among the recurring highlights.
In 2026/27, an exclusively composed soundtrack will again accompany the productions, which is also available for streaming via the Christmas Garden platforms. Heat and food stations offering mulled wine, bratwurst, vegetarian snacks, and sweet classics are distributed along the route. The stations are arranged to allow for a comfortable pace even in cool temperatures.

2026/27 Production – Circular Route in the Berlin Botanical Garden
Christmas Garden Berlin consists of around 20 thematic light stations along a two-kilometer circular route. Each station is its own production, many synchronized with music. Recurring and announced highlights for 2026/27:
- Opening Tunnel with pulsating LED choreography
- Choreographed Water Fountains with classical and modern music
- Laser Trees: Light beams draw lines through old treetops
- Glasshouse Projections onto the garden's historic architecture
- 'Sparkling Stars' – a field of stars on a lawn
- Christmas Light Dances – choreographed LED stages with soundtrack
- New Installations 2026/27 (announced by the organizer; specific titles will be revealed in the opening week)

Photo Contest 2026/27: Christmas Garden holds an annual photo competition. The grand prize for 2026/27 is a trip for two to Barcelona.

Getting There
Botanical Garden Berlin, Königin-Luise-Straße 6-8, 14195 Berlin (Steglitz-Zehlendorf district, Dahlem locality). Take the S-Bahn line S1 to Botanischer Garten (5 min. walk) or the bus lines M48 / 101 / X83 to Königin-Luise-Platz. Parking spaces are very limited – public transport or bicycle recommended.
Tickets
Tickets from €15.90 online and at the box office subject to availability. Advance booking recommended, as many dates in Advent sell out. Family, combo, and group tickets available. Children under a certain age usually have free admission. Tickets via christmas-garden.de/berlin.
