Chamber Concerts at Kloster Banz
Seven glorious matinees in the baroque Kaisersaal
2026
About Kammerkonzerte Banz
Kammerkonzerte Banz — edition 2026
The 36th season of the Chamber Concerts at Kloster Banz continues with four matinees in the first half of 2026. The focus is on unusual ensembles — from the tuba quartet, which playfully expands the soundscape of brass, to the young Trio ERA with a classical piano trio formation. A Lieder matinee with Michaela Schuster offers a vocal highlight, and the wind quintet of the Bamberg Symphony represents the close connection between the festival and the leading regional orchestra.
Tickets are available as single tickets (€25), discounted tickets (€12 for students, €24 with guest card), and as a season subscription for all seven concerts (€140).

Chamber music in one of Franconia's most beautiful halls
Kloster Banz, the former Benedictine abbey high above the Main Valley, is one of the most important baroque ensembles in Southern Germany. Since 1990, the Kaisersaal, with its frescoes, stucco work, and spacious acoustics, has been the stage for the Chamber Concerts at Kloster Banz — a concert series that has become a fixture in the Upper Franconian classical music scene.
The 36th Season 2025/2026
The current season comprises seven Sunday matinees, each starting at 11 AM. The programming by artistic director Achim Melzer traditionally focuses on a mix of standard repertoire (string quartets, Lieder cycles) and less frequently performed works. In 2025/2026, guests include the Melton Tuba Quartet "Tuba Tubissima," the wind quintet of the Bamberg Symphony, and the young Trio ERA.
Kloster Banz — Sound, Art, and Views
The monastery is located in the Lichtenfels district, in the state of Bavaria, directly opposite the Vierzehnheiligen pilgrimage church. The geographical arrangement of the two hills — Banz on one side, Vierzehnheiligen on the other side of the Main River — is one of the iconic landscapes of Upper Franconia. The monastery also houses the Hanns Seidel Foundation's educational center.
