Student Festival with a Scientific Twist
The CAMPUS Garden & Festival is one of the largest student-organized festivals in Bonn. It is organized by NatFak Festival e.V., the festival association of the student bodies of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Bonn. The venue is the Poppelsdorf Campus at Friedrich-Hirzebruch-Allee 4 – a modern university campus located between Poppelsdorf Palace, the Botanical Garden, and Endenicher Allee.
Program 2026: Five Days of Culture Under the Open Sky
The 2026 edition runs from Tuesday, June 16 to Saturday, June 20, 2026. Following the example of previous years: each evening features a different program focus between 5:30 PM and 10:30 PM. The following components are part of the festival:
- Live Concerts with bands and singer-songwriters – mostly acts from the Bonn and Rhine region, supplemented by up-and-coming artists from beyond the region.
- Science Slam – Bonn doctoral candidates and researchers present their topics in ten-minute stage shows; the audience decides the winners by applause.
- Outdoor Pub Quiz – a student quiz format with mixed teams.
- Creative Workshops – screen printing, linocut printing, natural cosmetics, DIY stations.
- Garden Area – lawns for relaxing, food trucks, vegetarian food stalls, bar with local breweries.
Free Admission: A Student Gift to the City
The festival is accessible free of charge. It is funded through sponsorships (especially the Studierendenwerk Bonn, local businesses) and volunteer work by the student bodies. This positions CAMPUS as an open city festival that is not only aimed at students but at all Bonn residents – and thus serves as an example of how universities can culturally shape urban society.
Bonn — University and Federal City
With around 335,000 inhabitants, Bonn is the second-largest city in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Formerly the federal capital of Germany, Bonn is now a central location for federal ministries (BMZ, BMVg, BMU, Post Ministry), and a city of science and university. The Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn – an Excellence University since 2019 – is a major driver of cultural life with over 35,000 students. The Poppelsdorf Campus, newly built a few years ago, is a modern science location with architecture ideally suited for open-air events.
