Early summer festival with stage program in the city center
Brüel (around 2,700 inhabitants) is located between Schweriner See and Sternberger Seenland in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Stadtfest Brüel transforms the city center into a festival mile once a year, with a stage, market stalls, gastronomy, and a family program. Unlike the Brüel Open Air in July (on the festival grounds on Schulstraße), the Stadtfest takes place right in the center — a day for the town's residents and guests from the surrounding villages.
The festival weekend is traditionally kicked off by the Brüeler Entenrennen (Duck Race) on the eve (Friday): hundreds of numbered rubber ducks are released from a bridge into the Mühlenbach stream and float with the current to win. The volunteer fire department supports the logistics, and the proceeds go to club activities. On Saturday, the Stadtfest follows with its stage program, club stalls, and family offerings.
Typical program elements include a city run for amateur runners in the morning, children's activities in the squares, stage music with regional bands and dance groups, a market area with club stalls and local vendors, and disco or dance evening for adults in the late afternoon and evening. Brüel shows itself on this day as a small Mecklenburg town that actively celebrates its community and public space.
The 2026 edition continues the fixed date in the early summer calendar of the town of Brüel. On Friday, June 5, 2026, the festival weekend begins with the 6th Brüeler Entenrennen (Duck Race) on the Mühlenbach stream. The Brüel volunteer fire department supports the event; numbered ducks are released into the water from the bridge.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the actual Stadtfest opens in the city center: a stage program with regional artists, club stalls, children's games, and market offerings characterize the day. The town thus combines club life, a trade show, and a civic festival — a classic early summer format for Mecklenburg.
Detailed program and stage artists will be published before the festival on stadt-brueel.de as well as on the event boards in the town.
Admission to the Stadtfest is free. Food and drinks at club stalls and gastronomic offerings in the city center are paid for individually. Numbered ducks are sold at cost price for the Duck Race; the proceeds go to club activities.
By car via the B104 between Schwerin and Sternberg. Parking around the city center area. By train via Bad Kleinen or Sternberg, then by bus or taxi.
Admission to the Stadtfest is free. Food and drinks, and possibly duck race tickets, are purchased on-site for a fee.
Those who want to experience the entire weekend can combine the Duck Race on Friday with the Stadtfest on Saturday. Both events are only a few minutes' walk apart.
