Wetterau Half-Timbered Town Celebrates
The Butzbacher Altstadtfest is the most important event in the Hessian half-timbered town in the Wetterau district. From September 4 to 6, 2026, the 43rd edition will take place in the historic city center with the market square, Kirchstraße, and surrounding squares serving as stage locations.
Organizer: City of Butzbach
The Altstadtfest is organized by the Butzbach City Administration, which also sets the date. Numerous local associations, businesses, and initiatives – including the Altstadtfreunde Butzbach e.V. – participate with stands, catering, and program contributions, thus shaping the lively character of the festival.
Weekly Market Relocates
During the festival days, the weekly market moves from its usual market square to the alternative area at Kirchplatz – on festival Saturday, it will take place there from 8 AM to 1 PM. A logistical detail that shows how city life is interwoven into the festival period.
Program with Local Bands and Associations
As with many Hessian city festivals, the program is based on local bands, association performances, and association catering. Several open-air stages are spread across the festival mile. The exact stage program and band names will be communicated on stadt-butzbach.de before the festival begins.
About Butzbach
Butzbach is a medium-sized town with around 26,000 inhabitants in the Wetterau district, located approximately 50 km north of Frankfurt am Main, on the eastern edge of the Taunus. The half-timbered old town with its historic market square, the old town hall, the Markuskirche, and the remains of the city wall is one of the most beautiful historic city centers in Hesse. Over 40 years of Altstadtfest history make the festival a central point of identification for the city community.
