Tip
If you don't know Butzbach yet: Take a stroll through the old town beforehand – the castle, Wendelin Church, the former Hessen-Homburg Castle Archive, and over 250 half-timbered houses are just steps from the market square.
Wine Festival in one of the most beautiful old towns in the Wetterau
Butzbach – this is one of the largest contiguous half-timbered old towns in Hesse, with over 250 listed buildings and a market square that is a postcard even without a festival. When the wine stands are set up around the market fountain in mid-June, the center of the Wetterau town transforms into a small wine mile with a special backdrop.
The 17th Edition
In 2026, the Butzbach Wine Festival will be in its 17th edition from June 18th to 20th. The concept has remained the same since its beginnings in 2010: selected vintners and wine merchants come to the market square with their wines, restaurateurs complement the offer with food that pairs well with wine, and a three-day music program runs on the central stage. It traditionally opens on Thursday afternoon with the mayor and a wine queen from one of the German wine-growing regions.
Family-Friendly
A wine festival that appeals not only to adults: a juice bar and hands-on activities for children, a glitter tattoo and balloon modeling program on Saturday, and a carousel in the neighboring square make the festival an event that families also enjoy attending.
Wine in the Shadow of the Wendelin Church
The market square is located in the shadow of the town church St. Markus and is only a few steps from the historic market fountain. In mild summer weather, you sit on wooden benches between the stalls, glass in hand, with the stage at your back and the half-timbered houses in front of your eyes – a setting that hardly any other wine festival in the region offers in this form.
Exhibitor Applications
The application deadline for exhibitors at the 2026 Wine Festival is March 31, 2026. Inquiries can be made via the City of Butzbach (Phone +49 6033 995-0).
Butzbach – the largest half-timbered old town in the Wetterau
Anyone who has never visited Butzbach should plan their arrival and departure at two different times of the day: In daylight, the old town with over 250 listed half-timbered houses, the three-nave Markus Church, and the former Hessen-Homburg Castle Archive shows its full splendor. When the market stage is illuminated on the wine festival evening and the fairy lights twinkle between the half-timbered gables, a scene is created that does not need to be over-stylized in any travel guide – it has its own inherent charm.
