Burgmannenstadt in Festival Mode
Quakenbrück bears the traditional epithet Burgmannenstadt. The historic designation refers to the Burgmannen — nobles who guarded the town in the Middle Ages and resided in the Burgmannen courtyards. Several of these courtyards still stand today in the well-preserved old town. The annual Burgmannsfest brings this tradition to life.

Friday Evening: Ringing In and Burgmann Election

The new Burgmann or Burgfrau for the festival year is presented from the town hall — an honourable tribute to personalities who have rendered services to Quakenbrück. The mayor, association leaders, and the festival committee accompany the ceremony.
Eight Stages in the Old Town
Over the three festival days, eight stages in the old town offer diverse programmes:

Saturday and Sunday

The organiser is the Initiative Quakenbrück (IQ) — a civic association that has been organising the festival for years. The volunteer structure supports the festival financially and logistically.
