Kirchweih in the Jug Town
The Creußener Kerwa is one of the most important traditions of the town of Creußen in the district of Bayreuth, Bavaria. Creußen is known as the 'Jug Town' – famous for its historic stoneware jugs, to which the Jug Museum is dedicated. The Kerwa combines this cultural heritage with Franconian festival customs.
Fun at the Großer Zimmerplatz
The central venue is the Großer Zimmerplatz, which becomes an amusement park with rides and stalls for several days. Kerwa specialties are served in the town's restaurants throughout the entire Kerwa.
Festive Church Service, Museum, and Sunday Shopping
Kerwa Sunday begins with a festive church service in the town's parish church of St. Jakobus. Afterwards, the celebration continues at the Großer Zimmerplatz – for example, with catering by local clubs like TTC Creußen. The Jug Museum opens its doors, and the shops invite visitors for Sunday shopping.
Several Days of Franconian Customs
Over the long weekend, the Creußener Kerwa combines conviviality, regional cuisine, and tradition. It is a firm meeting point for locals and a popular destination for visitors from the Bayreuth region and the Fränkische Schweiz.
Creußen between Fränkische Schweiz and Fichtelgebirge
The town of Creußen is scenically located between the Fränkische Schweiz and the Fichtelgebirge. A visit to the Kerwa can therefore be combined with an excursion into the surrounding nature and a visit to the Jug Museum.
