Bundessängerfest Wrohm

North German Choral Tradition

Singing societies have been an important carrier of civic and village cultural life in Northern Germany since the mid-19th century. The municipality of Wrohm and its neighbouring communities in Dithmarschen have a particularly dense landscape of choirs and singing societies, and the annual Bundessängerfest is the central occasion where the various societies meet, introduce themselves to each other, and form joint choirs.

Programme — Choirs on Stage

The programme begins at 2:00 PM in the festival hall. The participating choirs take turns on stage — usually three to five songs per choir — presenting their rehearsal work of the season. Traditionally, a joint choir concludes a Sängerfest, in which all attendees sing a classical piece together. The programme is accompanied by coffee, cake, and socialising among choir members.

Wrohm in the Dithmarscher Geest

Wrohm is a small municipality with around 1,100 inhabitants in the district of Dithmarschen (Schleswig-Holstein), in the northern Dithmarscher Geest between Heide and Albersdorf. The landscape is gently rolling, characterised by hedgerows and meadows — unlike the flat marshland in western Dithmarschen. The Wrohm community maintains an active club life with a sports club, fire brigade, rural women's association, singing society, and several festivals throughout the year.
