A Market Town Between the Danube and Altmühltal
Nittendorf is located about 15 kilometers west of Regensburg on the A 3 motorway, nestled between the Danube, Naab, and Altmühl rivers. With a good 9,000 inhabitants, it is a typical Bavarian market town: large enough for a lively club life, small enough that the Bürgerfest is truly "for the citizens" — and not for day-trippers from Regensburg. This mix is precisely what defines the character of the festival.
Market Square as a Stage
The festival grounds are the historic market square in the Nittendorf district itself. Regional bands, cover bands, and traditional costume ensembles perform on several stages — from Franconian Schlager to rock to classic Bavarian brass band music. All around, stalls offer grilled sausages, smoked meats, fish on a stick, homemade cakes, and a rich selection of handicrafts: pottery, wood carving, beeswax candles, felt goods — typical Upper Palatinate craftsmanship in its full breadth.
Sunday Shopping and Trade Exhibition
A special feature of the Bürgerfest is its combination with Sunday shopping and a trade exhibition of Nittendorf's businesses. Craftsmen, service providers, and local retailers present themselves here — a format that is traditional in many market communities in Upper Bavaria and Upper Palatinate, making the Bürgerfest a small, mini-trade fair.
Alternation with the Eichhofen Brewery Festival
Historically, the Bürgerfest alternates in years with the Eichhofen Brewery Festival, which takes place every two years in the neighboring district of Eichhofen around the Schlossbrauerei (castle brewery) — both are Volksfeste (popular festivals) with a similar target audience, whose dates are deliberately staggered. However, in 2026, both festivals will take place (Brewery Festival as a three-day major event, Bürgerfest as a weekend market festival). Those who want to visit both can spend the entire summer weekend in the market town of Nittendorf.
Cultural Networking
The Bürgerfest is organized by the Markt Nittendorf in cooperation with the Nittendorf Cultural Association, the Undorf Kirtaverein (harvest festival association), local gastronomy (including Alte Linde in Undorf), and numerous clubs. It is embedded in the series of events in the Schwarze Laber valley, which, with its castles, hiking trails, and the Eichhofen Schlossbrauerei, is a popular local recreation area for Regensburg residents.
Bürgerfest Nittendorf — edition 2026
The exact stage and artist lineup for 2026 will be published a few weeks before the festival on nittendorf.de and in the "Mitteilungsblatt des Marktes Nittendorf" (Official Gazette of the Markt Nittendorf). As in previous years, several stages will be set up around the market square, featuring performances by regional bands, brass bands, and cover bands.
On Sunday, local retailers will also open their doors for Sunday shopping, and Nittendorf's craftsmen and service providers will present themselves at a trade exhibition. The district of Regensburg supports the event with an open-air children's concert on the family stage — a now-established tradition of the Bürgerfest.

Free admission. Food and drinks are sold by local clubs and restaurateurs.
