A Village in the Middle of Berlin
Buckow is one of Berlin's most surprising neighborhoods: a village green (Anger) dating back to the 13th century, surrounded by the urban sprawl, yet remarkably well-preserved in its original form with a fieldstone church and farmsteads. The Dorfanger Alt-Buckow is the village's winding green main street – and this is exactly where the Buckower Dorfangerfest takes place over three summer days.
Three Days of Stage Program
The festival is organized annually in July by the promoter Hauptstadtkultur. The village green stage is the centerpiece, featuring live music: DJ sets kick off the day, followed by local bands, dance music, Rock'n'Roll revues, and Schlager stars. The 'Anger-Höfe' (courtyards around the stage) become a courtyard music stage – Jazz, Reggae, Blues, and Country in a small, intimate atmosphere. Children's carousels, games, and food stalls are spread across the lawn.
Neukölln, Southern Berlin, and the Village Green Tradition
Buckow is located in the Neukölln district on the southern outskirts of Berlin, right next to the large housing estates of Gropiusstadt and Buckow-Süd. The Dorfanger Alt-Buckow is considered one of the best-preserved medieval village green ensembles in Berlin – the Alt-Buckow village church dates back to the 13th century and is a protected monument. The Dorfangerfest is the annual affirmation that this district does not want to lose its village roots.
