Saarland village festival at Pirmin-Raber-Platz in the Hangard district
The Brunnenfest in Hangard is one of those typical village festivals that form the essence of the Saarland. Hangard, a district of Neunkirchen in the Neunkirchen district, has preserved its rural roots and celebrates them annually at Pirmin-Raber-Platz, the fountain square in the middle of the village.
The festival is organized by the Heimat- und Kulturverein Hangard (HUK), an active association that also stands behind the well-known Brunnenpfad (Fountain Trail) – a hiking trail connecting seven historical spring and fountain sites, some of which are up to 300 years old. The association members take care of the maintenance of the fountain and the preservation of local culture.
The Brunnenfest starts in the late afternoon and lasts into the evening. Associations from Hangard and the surrounding area offer Saarland specialties: Bratwurst, fries, Lyoner, homemade cake, and cool regional beer characterize the culinary offerings. Musical accompaniment – often from the local music association or a regional soloist – creates the right atmosphere for the festival.
Hangard is located on the eastern outskirts of Neunkirchen, nestled in the hilly landscape of the Saarland low mountain range. Visitors to the Brunnenfest can complement their stay with a hike on the Brunnenpfad – with views of the Vosges mountains on a clear day. The combination of a village festival and a hiking experience makes the village square an authentic Saarland excursion destination.
A classic Saarland association festival in the middle of Hangard – with food, drinks, and live music. The HUK invites the residents of the district as well as guests from the surrounding area.
