Bucha in the Saale-Holzland District

Bucha is a small municipality in the Saale-Holzland district in the state of Thuringia, located in the hills southwest of Jena. The administrative community of Südliches Saaletal unites Bucha with several neighboring municipalities into a small rural unit at the transition to the Thuringian Slate Mountains. The region is characterized by agriculture; traditional farmhouses with bakehouses and small vineyards shape the landscape.

Bread and Wine — A Young Tradition

The festival „Brot und Wein“ was established in 2023 as a small village festival, combining two of the oldest cultural techniques in Central Europe: baking bread in traditional wood-fired ovens and viticulture. The 4th edition in 2026 is a social meeting point for the village community — farmers and bakeries present regional bread, vintners from Saale-Unstrut (Thuringia's own wine-growing region, Germany's northernmost growing region) their wines.

Program and Atmosphere

The festival on June 13, 2026, begins in the late afternoon at the Bucha village square. Bread baking in an open wood-fired oven, wine tastings, regional specialties like Thuringian Bratwurst and root vegetables, live music with folk and traditional music groups — an intimate atmosphere that is culinarily and socially anchored.
