Largest Metal Open Air in the Altmark – 36 Bands over four days at Zienau Swimming Pool
The Metal Frenzy Open Air has existed since 2014 and has become a well-known name in the Altmark. For years, the venue has been the Zienau Swimming Pool on the outskirts of Gardelegen – a festival setting between swimming pools, meadows, and trees that embodies the quintessential northern German Frenzy charm. Four days, one main stage, plus a side stage and a packed schedule covering Death Metal, Black Metal, Folk Metal, Pagan, Hardcore, and alternative genres.
Gardelegen is located in the north of Saxony-Anhalt, in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel, between Magdeburg and Wolfsburg – traditionally a sparsely populated, hilly region with large forests and small towns. Metal Frenzy has established itself precisely in this context: not a big city festival, but an underground gathering that has grown over the years, organized by a volunteer association, attracting visitors from far beyond Saxony-Anhalt.
Headliners for the 2026 edition are the Swedish Death Metal all-star group Bloodbath, the Irish Black Metal institution Primordial, and the Welsh Crossover stars Skindred. Also featured are Marduk, Grand Magus, Cancer Bats, Tanzwut, Coppelius, Eisregen, 1914, Antrisch, Rummelsnuff, Robse, Buster Shuffle, Mit Ohne Strom, Bloodsucking Zombies From Outer Space, and over 20 other bands from Germany, Scandinavia, Great Britain, Ireland, and Eastern Europe. A total of 36 acts over the four festival days.
The Frenzy is small enough for a personal atmosphere and large enough to attract international headliners. Camping is available directly at the festival grounds, with genre diversity consciously spread across the entire Metal spectrum, plus concerts, workshops, and the popular pre-festival programme. A mix of a large main stage and a side stage allows for a dense schedule without simultaneous slots.
The 2026 edition of Metal Frenzy brings its most extensive programme to date with 36 bands – "slightly more bands than the previous year," as announced by the organisers. Headliners over the four days are the Swedish Death Metal collective Bloodbath, the Irish Pagan/Black Metal veterans Primordial, and the Welsh Crossover stars Skindred. Also featured are Marduk, Grand Magus, Cancer Bats, Tanzwut, Coppelius, Eisregen, 1914, Antrisch, Rummelsnuff, and Robse.
The exact setlist and stage schedule will typically be published by the organisers a few weeks before the event on metal-frenzy.de. The final wave of band announcements will be made in mid-May 2026.
