Inclusive Variety Show at the historic Schloß Broich on August 1, 2026 in Mülheim an der Ruhr
The Broicher Schlossnacht is an extraordinary cultural event in the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr. The venue is Schloß Broich, a castle complex over 1,000 years old on the right bank of the Ruhr river — one of the oldest surviving fortress structures in Western Central Europe. Every summer, the festival presents a high-quality variety program here.
The special feature of the festival: artists with and without disabilities share the stage. Dance, theater, and acrobatics form the core program — described by the organizers as a "summer night's dream of dance, theater, and acrobatics". The event is one of the outstanding inclusive festivals in North Rhine-Westphalia and makes Schloß Broich a symbol of accessible high culture.
Two organizations are behind the Schlossnacht: Mülheimer Stadtmarketing und Tourismus GmbH (MST), a municipal subsidiary, and Art Obscura e.V., a Mülheim cultural association focusing on inclusive performance. The sponsor is Sparkasse Mülheim an der Ruhr. This trio makes it possible to offer a high-quality program at very low ticket prices.
The admission price of €10 is deliberately kept low; children under 16, holders of a disability pass, the MülheimPass, or those receiving state support get in free. Schloß Broich offers an accessible event environment. In case of bad weather, the event will move to the indoor area of the castle.
Mülheim an der Ruhr is located on the edge of the Ruhr area, between Essen, Duisburg, and Oberhausen. Schloß Broich is one of the city's most important historical landmarks — and a venue that hosts cultural events year-round. The Broicher Schlossnacht is a highlight in the Mülheim festival calendar, attracting attention throughout the Ruhr region not least because of its inclusive approach.
The 2026 edition continues the established concept of the Schlossnacht. Program items will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event on mein-muelheim.de and via Mülheimer Stadtmarketing und Tourismus GmbH. Focus: dance performances, short theater pieces, and acrobatic acts — designed to be inclusive and accessible.
Schloß Broich offers a special atmosphere as a venue: stages are created in the Romanesque fortress core and the courtyard, combining open-air charm with a historic setting. The sponsor and co-organizer have been stable for years — the Schlossnacht is established as a long-term format.
