200+ Baden wines, 16 vintners and cooperatives, three stages — four days in Emmendingen's Old Town
The Breisgau Wine Festival in Emmendingen has been the most important wine festival in Breisgau since 1973 and is one of the most significant wine festivals in Baden. From Friday, August 14 to Monday, August 17, 2026, the Schlossplatz area, the Landvogtei area, and the square in front of the Stadtkirche in Emmendingen's historic Old Town will open for the 53rd time for the grand festival weekend. The organizer is Breisgauer Wein GmbH under the umbrella of the Weinland Breisgau initiative.
16 wineries and wine cooperatives from all over Breisgau present their products — from Gutedel and Müller-Thurgau to Pinot Noir and Grauburgunder, as well as Baden sparkling wine. A total of more than 200 wines and sparkling wines, with and without alcohol, are available for tasting — a range that no other wine festival in Breisgau offers. The stands are spread throughout the city center — you walk from vintner to vintner and taste your way through the entire wine region.
Live music plays on three stages: Schlossplatz, Landvogtei, and the square in front of the Stadtkirche. The musical spectrum ranges from the Emmendingen town band to cover bands and DJ sets in the late evening. The highlight in 2026 is the crowning of the new Breisgau Wine Princess in a festive ceremony. On Sunday, an ecumenical service on the festival grounds kicks off the last festival weekend — a mix of festive joy and religious tradition, typical of Baden wine festivals.
Payment at the wine stands is exclusively contactless and cashless — a modern solution that reduces queues and keeps the festival running efficiently. Shuttle buses run from the surrounding communities of Breisgau to the festival grounds on the opening day (€3.50 per trip). Emmendingen train station is just a few minutes' walk from the festival grounds — the central bus station (ZOB) and the train station are part of the optimal arrival infrastructure.
Emmendingen is a city of 28,000 inhabitants in the south of Baden-Württemberg, the district capital of the Emmendingen district of the same name, and the gateway to the Breisgau wine region. Breisgau, located between the Black Forest, Kaiserstuhl, and the Rhine plain, is one of Germany's most climatically privileged wine regions — Gutedel is the regionally typical white grape variety, and Pinot Noir achieves Bordeaux quality here. The Breisgau Wine Festival is more than just a town festival: it is the annual self-affirmation of a wine region.
The 53rd edition of the Breisgau Wine Festival opens its gates from Friday, August 14 to Monday, August 17, 2026, in Emmendingen's Old Town. Admission is free, and payment at all wine stands is exclusively cashless/contactless.
