About Christmas Market Braunschweig

The Braunschweig Christmas Market is one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Northern Germany. For over five weeks, it transforms the squares around St. Blasii Cathedral and Dankwarderode Castle into a festive market town with around 140 stalls. It offers handicrafts, regional specialties, Mumme mulled wine, kale with Bregenwurst sausage, candied almonds, and a free children's and cultural program on the market stage. The unique setting of medieval buildings and the famous Braunschweig Lion makes the market an experience that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the region every year. Open from the end of November until just before New Year's Eve (except December 24th and 25th).

Christmas between the Cathedral and the Castle

The Braunschweig Christmas Market boasts one of the most impressive backdrops a German Christmas market can offer: Framed by St. Blasii Cathedral, Dankwarderode Castle, and the famous 12th-century Braunschweig Lion, a historically festive ensemble is created over five weeks, uniquely combining tradition and atmosphere.

Around 140 Stalls

The market classically features everything that belongs to a large Northern German Christmas market: handicrafts from the Ore Mountains and the region (nutcrackers, candle arches, wooden nativity scenes, glass baubles), regional specialties, and diverse gastronomy.

Mumme Mulled Wine and Kale

A specialty: Mumme mulled wine, brewed with the typical Braunschweig Mumme. Accompanied by kale with Bregenwurst sausage, fried dough pastries, candied almonds, crêpes, Feuerzangenbowle (mulled wine with rum), and many other classics.

Free Children's and Cultural Program

Throughout the entire duration, free children's and cultural programs are offered on the market stage: children's choirs, brass ensembles, storytelling, craft activities, and performances by local initiatives.

Opening Hours and Closures

The market is open Mon–Sat 10 AM–9 PM, Sundays and public holidays 11 AM–9 PM. Closed on December 24th and 25th.
