Three days of wine, street food, and Sunday shopping in southern Aachen
The Brander Weinfest is a young event with a big impact: Since its premiere in 2023, the festival organized by the IG Brander Handel, Handwerk und Gewerbe e.V. (Association of Brand Trade, Craft, and Commerce) has become the convivial highlight of spring in Aachen's Brand district. For three days, wooden stalls, bistro tables, and stage areas will fill the area around Brand's market square – not a mass event, but a district festival with a clear focus on enjoyment, right in the heart of the Aachen metropolitan region in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The winemakers are at the center of the program. In addition to the host Weinfreund Aachen and long-time regulars like Weingut Thule, Weingut Lenes (Ensch/Mosel), Petry & Frieß (Weinoldsheim), and Weingut Zöller (Eckelsheim/Rheinhessen), further wineries from Pfalz, Rheingau, and Mosel will complement the selection. White, red, and rosé wines will be served, along with Secco, grape juice, liqueurs, and brandies – both by the glass and for takeaway.
To ensure the wine has the perfect accompaniment, the street food area Le Marché France is part of the festival: Cheese specialties, crêpes, fresh baguette, Flammkuchen, smoked salmon, bowls, and ice cream bring a touch of French flair to southern Aachen – fitting for the tri-border region of Germany–Belgium–Netherlands where Brand is located. Live music and a moderated supporting program will create the right atmosphere at open-air bistro tables.
On the festival Sunday, many shops along Trierer Straße open their doors: Shoe stores, local fashion boutiques, opticians, florists, and cafés invite you to stroll between 1 PM and 6 PM. The Weinfest and the Sunday shopping were deliberately combined – they are part of the strategy to strengthen the vibrant district center of Brand against competition from the city center and the online world.
With around 20,000 inhabitants, Brand is one of Aachen's largest districts and has retained its independent character. Visitors to the Brander Weinfest will not only discover wine but also a piece of Aachen beyond the cathedral and the Charlemagne Prize: a district that cherishes its club life and supports its local businesses. It is precisely this mix of tradition and gourmet trends that makes the weekend so charming.
From May 8th to 10th, 2026, the IG Brander Handel, Handwerk und Gewerbe e.V. invites you to the third Brander Weinfest on Brand's market square. Wine, French street food, and Sunday shopping will again form the basic structure of the festival in 2026.
Wineries from Mosel, Rheinhessen, Pfalz, and Rheingau will be serving their wines on the market square — white, red, and rosé wines, Secco, grape juice, liqueurs, and brandies. Among them will be the host Weinfreund Aachen, Weingut Thule, Weingut Lenes from Ensch, Petry & Frieß from Weinoldsheim, and Weingut Zöller from Eckelsheim. The street food area Le Marché France will offer cheese, crêpes, baguette, Flammkuchen, smoked salmon, bowls, and ice cream.
Parallel to the festival Sunday, shops along Trierer Straße will open their doors from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM: Fashion stores, shoe stores (including Schuhhaus Hermanns), opticians, cafés, and bakeries invite you for a stroll. The complete stage program and the list of live acts will traditionally be published a few weeks before the festival on the IG Brand channels.
The exact names of the live acts and the complete 2026 program will be published on the IG Brand website and social media channels a few weeks before the festival.
