Three-day district festival around Moritz-Braun-Park and Severinusplatz
Do you only know Aachen from the Cathedral and the Karlsbrunnen fountain? Then a weekend in eastern Aachen — specifically in the Eilendorf district — is worthwhile. For three days at the end of May, the Bürgerfest transforms the district into a dense, lively festival with all the unique characteristics that define this volunteer-driven format. Unlike central city festivals, the Bürgerfest Eilendorf is consciously locally anchored — the district celebrates itself, and that's its charm.
Behind the Bürgerfest is the IG Eilendorfer Vereine e.V. — an umbrella organization that brings together over 30 Eilendorf clubs: sports clubs, music clubs, shooting fraternities, church choirs, carnival societies, social and migrant associations, hobby clubs. These clubs form the backbone of the festival — they run the stalls, design the stage program, and handle setup and dismantling. The Bürgerfest is therefore not just an event, but an annual showcase of the district.
The event area spans two central points of the district: the Moritz-Braun-Park as the main green space and the Severinusplatz in front of the parish church of St. Severin. Both areas are within walking distance of each other, allowing visitors to move between the stage, market stalls, and children's sports stations without long journeys.
The exact program for the 2026 edition will be announced in the months leading up to the date on the IG's website. Established formats from previous years include: Live music on the main stage (cover bands, local artists, traditional sing-along music), dance performances by carnival societies and dance schools, appearances by the Eilendorf music club, hands-on activities for children (bouncy castle, craft stations, face painting), a trade exhibition of local artisans and businesses, and a wide range of food and drinks with bratwurst, fries, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic alternatives.
Eilendorf is a district in eastern Aachen, on the border with Stolberg, Würselen, and the Düren region. With around 14,000 inhabitants, Eilendorf is one of the larger districts of Aachen. Geographically, Eilendorf belongs to Aachen, an independent city in the administrative district of Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia. The district is accessible by public transport via the A544 motorway (Eilendorf exit) and by train (Aachen-Eilendorf station, RB20 / RB30).
The 2026 edition of the Bürgerfest Eilendorf starts on Friday, May 29, with an opening evening (inauguration, first stage acts), continues through Saturday with the most packed stage program, and concludes on Sunday, May 31, traditionally with a family day. Over 30 Eilendorf clubs and businesses will operate stalls, design the stage program, and handle the organization.
The detailed program will be published in the months leading up to the event on ig-eilendorfer-vereine.de and via Facebook. Regular attendees can expect cover bands, performances by the Eilendorf music club, carnival and dance school show acts, as well as a wide selection of food and children's entertainment.
