Three days of city festival on Mittelstraße — the promenade celebrates itself
Since 2009, Gevelsberg has been celebrating its Mittelstraße — the central shopping and promenade axis of the city — once a year with a three-day city festival. The event is called Boulevard Gevelsberg, and it stands for exactly what its name suggests: a boulevard, a promenade, a strolling mile where you can wander, listen, eat, and chat. ProCity Gevelsberg e.V. organizes the festival with the aim of revitalizing the city center and strengthening local businesses.
Friday, May 29th, 2026 — 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM: Opening with live music, a first toast at the drinks stands. Saturday, May 30th, 2026 — 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM: Full program with stage acts, street artists, craft stalls, children's program. Sunday, May 31st, 2026 — 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM: Sunday with open shops with extended store opening hours, concluding family program.
On two to three stages along the Mittelstraße, regional and national bands perform — cover bands, singer-songwriters, acoustic acts. Street artists (jugglers, acrobats, mimes) provide mobile entertainment. Craft stalls offer ceramics, leather goods, jewelry, and textiles. Gastronomy features regional specialties plus international street food classics (Bratwurst, fries, potato pancakes, tapas, pulled pork, crêpes).
Gevelsberg is located in the Ennepe-Ruhr district between Wuppertal and Hagen. With just under 30,000 inhabitants, it's manageable but economically active (metal industry). The town has retained its Bergisch-Westphalian character — a half-timbered town center, hilly surroundings. The Boulevard attracts visitors from Schwelm, Ennepetal, Wetter, Sprockhövel, and Hattingen.
ProCity Gevelsberg e.V. is the association of the city's traders and retailers. With the Boulevard, Christmas market, spring festival, and several other events, the association shapes the city center's activities throughout the year.
The Boulevard Gevelsberg 2026 continues the tradition established in 2009: a three-day city festival in the city center with a stage program, market stalls, and gastronomic variety.
