About Marksmen's Festival Borgfeld

The Borgfeld Marksmen's Festival is the fifth season in the rural eastern part of Bremen. Traditionally on the fourth weekend of August, the Borgfeld Marksmen's Guild of 1957 e.V. transforms the festival grounds on Hamfhofsweg into a fairground with a festival tent, rides, and food stalls for four days. The program includes a beer tapping ceremony, a lantern parade for children, a parade with the king and queen through the district, and the public marksmen's competition in the Ernst-Klüver-Halle. The Marksmen's Festival is a social highlight for all of Borgfeld and an attraction far beyond the district.

The Fifth Season in Borgfeld

When the festival tent is set up on Hamfhofsweg, the rides are assembled, and the first celebratory shot is fired, it's Marksmen's Festival time in Bremen's east. For four days, Borgfeld on the Wümme celebrates its fifth season: The Borgfeld Marksmen's Guild of 1957 e.V., with its over 300 members, invites you to one of Bremen's largest district festivals. The festival grounds are the Schützenplatz at Hamfhofsweg 4, the festival tent, and the Ernst-Klüver-Halle.

Beer Tapping, Parade, and Marksmen's Competition

The program follows tradition: It begins on Friday evening with the beer tapping ceremony by the reigning king and queen, followed by the lantern parade for the children. Saturday features the children's festival and the youth marksmen's competition for those aged ten to seventeen. Sunday starts early with a wake-up call by a marching band through the town, along with parades featuring the king and queen. Monday includes a members' breakfast, a satirical guild court, and finally, the public marksmen's competition with the proclamation of the new royal court and a grand ball.

Marksmen's Tradition in a Hanseatic Village

Borgfeld, with its Wümme meadows, is one of Bremen's most rural districts – and accordingly cultivates vibrant customs. The Marksmen's Festival here is far more than just a Volksfest (popular festival); it is lived community, where clubs, families, and the Mayor of Bremen celebrate side by side. The Marksmen's Guild thus keeps alive a tradition that has shaped the district for decades.

Marksmen's Festival Borgfeld — edition 2026

The Borgfeld Marksmen's Festival 2026 will traditionally take place on the fourth weekend of August (likely August 28 to 31) on the festival grounds at Hamfhofsweg. Four days of festival tent, rides, parades, and the public marksmen's competition shape the program.

From August 28 to 31, 2026, the Borgfeld Marksmen's Guild of 1957 e.V., with its over 300 members, will once again host Borgfeld's fifth season. For four days, the grounds at Hamfhofsweg 4 (Schützenplatz, festival tent, Ernst-Klüver-Halle) will transform into a fairground with dodgems, a chain carousel, and food stalls. The opening on Friday evening will feature a beer tapping by the king and queen and a lantern parade for the children, followed on Saturday by the free children's festival and the youth marksmen's competition. Sunday will feature the grand parade through the district with marching bands, and Monday the public marksmen's competition in the shooting hall and the King's Ball with the proclamation of the new royal court. The guild will announce the detailed festival program in advance and distribute it to households; tent admission on Friday and Saturday will be around €10 per day.
