Sprint and popular triathlon at the Stadtwaldsee in Bremen
When the Stadtwaldsee becomes a competition venue in June, triathletes from Bremen and the surrounding area meet for the Einhorn-Triathlon. The lake, simply called Unisee by Bremen's residents, is a popular local recreation and swimming area on the edge of the Stadtwald, easily accessible via the A27 between Horn-Lehe and Überseestadt. For the swimming course, public use of the lake is officially restricted on the day of the competition – an indication that an officially approved, seriously organised event is taking place, secured by, among others, the DLRG Bremen-Stadt.
Swimming takes place on a rectangular course in the Stadtwaldsee, followed by a cycle on a traffic-free asphalt circuit of approximately 20 kilometres. The final run leads over forest paths around the lake – a loop of about 2.5 kilometres, completed twice. A strict no-drafting rule applies to the cycling leg, timing is done electronically via transponder, and helmets are mandatory on the bike.
The Einhorn-Triathlon is aimed at different performance levels:
The fields are deliberately kept manageable; advance registration is required. This familiar size is precisely what makes it appealing: short distances, personal atmosphere, no anonymous mass race.
The event is supported by the voluntary commitment of the Triathlon Club Bremen e.V. together with the Bremer Triathlon Verband. The Einhorn-Triathlon thus stands for vibrant grassroots sports in the state of Bremen – organised in a family-friendly manner, but taken seriously in terms of sport, and a regular date in the season calendar for many athletes from the region.
For the seventh edition, athletes will start on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 9:45 a.m. at the Stadtwaldsee. Swimming will be in the Unisee, followed by cycling on a 20-kilometer asphalt circuit closed to traffic, and running on forest paths around the lake (2 laps of approx. 2.5 km each). Three adult competitions (sprint, popular triathlon, relay) plus 80 starting places for children and juniors. Helmets and no-drafting are mandatory, electronic timing via ankle transponder, maximum competition duration 2:45 hours. Main sponsors are Sparkasse Bremen, AOK Bremen, radschlag Bremen, and Aromatico.
Organizers: Triathlon Club Bremen e.V. together with the Bremer Triathlon Verband; water rescue by DLRG Bremen-Stadt.
The Stadtwaldsee (Unisee) is located on the A27 between the Horn-Lehe and Überseestadt junctions in Bremen and is also accessible by public transport.
Participation is via advance registration with the Triathlon Club Bremen ([email protected]). Fields are limited: around 60 starting places for the sprint, up to 220 for the popular triathlon plus relays. Helmets are mandatory on the bike, electronic timing via transponder.
