About Einhorn-Triathlon

The Einhorn-Triathlon is a recreational and competitive triathlon at the Stadtwaldsee, better known in Bremen as Unisee. The Triathlon Club Bremen e.V. organises the event together with the Bremer Triathlon Verband. Swimming takes place in the Stadtwaldsee, cycling on a traffic-free asphalt circuit, and running on forest paths around the lake. It offers a sprint distance (750 m swimming, approx. 20 km cycling, approx. 5 km running) and a popular triathlon (500 m swimming, approx. 20 km cycling, approx. 5 km running), plus relays. With manageable participant numbers and a location in the middle of Bremen's green spaces, the Einhorn-Triathlon is a regular fixture for beginners and ambitious athletes from the region.

Triathlon in Bremen's Green Spaces

When the Stadtwaldsee becomes a competition venue in June, triathletes from Bremen and the surrounding area meet for the Einhorn-Triathlon. The lake, simply called Unisee by Bremen's residents, is a popular local recreation and swimming area on the edge of the Stadtwald, easily accessible via the A27 between Horn-Lehe and Überseestadt. For the swimming course, public use of the lake is officially restricted on the day of the competition – an indication that an officially approved, seriously organised event is taking place, secured by, among others, the DLRG Bremen-Stadt.

Three Disciplines Around the Lake

Swimming takes place on a rectangular course in the Stadtwaldsee, followed by a cycle on a traffic-free asphalt circuit of approximately 20 kilometres. The final run leads over forest paths around the lake – a loop of about 2.5 kilometres, completed twice. A strict no-drafting rule applies to the cycling leg, timing is done electronically via transponder, and helmets are mandatory on the bike.

Sprint, Popular Distance, and Relays

The Einhorn-Triathlon is aimed at different performance levels:

  • Sprint Distance: 750 m swimming, approx. 20 km cycling, approx. 5 km running
  • Popular Triathlon: 500 m swimming, approx. 20 km cycling, approx. 5 km running – ideal for beginners
  • Relays: three people share the disciplines

The fields are deliberately kept manageable; advance registration is required. This familiar size is precisely what makes it appealing: short distances, personal atmosphere, no anonymous mass race.

Club Sport in the Hanseatic City

The event is supported by the voluntary commitment of the Triathlon Club Bremen e.V. together with the Bremer Triathlon Verband. The Einhorn-Triathlon thus stands for vibrant grassroots sports in the state of Bremen – organised in a family-friendly manner, but taken seriously in terms of sport, and a regular date in the season calendar for many athletes from the region.

Einhorn-Triathlon — edition 2026

The 7th Einhorn-Triathlon takes place on June 14, 2026, starting around 10 a.m. at the Stadtwaldsee (Unisee) in Bremen. It offers a sprint distance (750 m / approx. 20 km / approx. 5 km) and a popular triathlon (500 m / approx. 20 km / approx. 5 km), as well as relays.

For the seventh edition, athletes will start on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 9:45 a.m. at the Stadtwaldsee. Swimming will be in the Unisee, followed by cycling on a 20-kilometer asphalt circuit closed to traffic, and running on forest paths around the lake (2 laps of approx. 2.5 km each). Three adult competitions (sprint, popular triathlon, relay) plus 80 starting places for children and juniors. Helmets and no-drafting are mandatory, electronic timing via ankle transponder, maximum competition duration 2:45 hours. Main sponsors are Sparkasse Bremen, AOK Bremen, radschlag Bremen, and Aromatico.
