About Blue Wave
Blue Wave — edition 2026
The 2026 Edition in Binz
The Blue Wave Festival returns to Binz for the 28th time. Organizer Binzer Bucht Tourismus has structured the 2026 program into three strands: free open-air concerts on the Kurplatz under the title Pink Piano, ticketed club concerts in the Kulturbahnhof Binz, and distributed performances in bars, cafés, and hotels along the beach promenade.
A new feature for 2026: the Blue Wave Academy. Workshops, open sessions, and masterclasses with the participating musicians will open the festival to amateur musicians from the region and across Germany.

A Festival That Takes Over the Promenade
Anyone visiting Binz on a normal summer day knows the scene: white spa architecture, a long beach promenade, a pier, the quiet murmur of the Baltic Sea. For four days in June, it becomes something different. At the Blue Wave Festival, you'll hear strumming, drumming, swinging, and singing around every corner – on the Kurplatz, in the Kulturbahnhof, in hotel bars, and on the beach promenade. The festival aims to bring a New Orleans-like zest for life to the island for four days: not as a show, but as an atmosphere. You walk from one concert to the next, deciding where to stay as you go.
What's Actually Played Here
The name suggests blues, but the program is broader. The stages feature classic blues acts as well as soul and funk bands, swing combos in the style of the 30s and 40s, gospel choirs, young indie singer-songwriters, and occasional forays into jazz and blues-infused rock. The profile has grown over the years: what began as a blues festival with international ambitions has evolved into a genre-spanning summer festival that reflects the acoustic breadth of Black music traditions.
The Venue System
- Kurplatz Binz — the free main stage in open-air format, under the title »Pink Piano«. Several sets are played here daily over the four days, often in the afternoon and early evening.
- Kulturbahnhof Binz — the former train station, now a cultural center, is the central indoor venue for ticketed club concerts. The opening in 2026 will also take place here.
- Distributed Venues — hotel bars, cafés, and pop-up stages along the beach promenade host additional acts, especially in the evenings.
What's New in 2026: The Blue Wave Academy
For its 28th anniversary, the organizer Binzer Bucht Tourismus is adding an academy to the festival: workshops and sessions with the participating musicians, intended for local and visiting amateur musicians who want to play, learn, and jam with professionals. This format follows in the tradition of European blues camps like Sweden's Notodden and opens the festival beyond just concerts.
When It's Worth Traveling
Mid-June on Rügen is often the most beautiful transitional period: long, bright evenings, warm but not mid-summer temperatures, manageable tourist crowds. Those who want to experience the entire festival should plan 4–5 days in Binz; for a day trip, Saturday is the busiest day with the most open-air sets on the Kurplatz. You can reach Binz from Berlin or Hamburg by train without changing.
