Family-friendly autumn festival with trade fair, arts and crafts market, open Sunday shopping, and Blaustein Music Night
On the last weekend of September 2026 — expected to be Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27 — the Blausteiner Herbst takes place. The event is a mix of a trade fair, arts and crafts market, open Sunday shopping, and live music night — an event format that bundles the economic and cultural life of the Swabian Alb municipality of Blaustein. The organizers are the Association of Self-Employed Blaustein (VSB) — the local business association for small and medium-sized enterprises — together with the City of Blaustein.
The centerpiece of the event is the trade fair in the Blautalhalle — the larger city hall in Blaustein's city center. Here, around 30 to 50 Blaustein companies from crafts, trade, services, and small industry present themselves. You will find exhibitors such as carpentry shops, bakeries, butcher shops, opticians, hairdressers, bookstores, local food producers, and machine and electronics companies from the Albuch region. The trade fair serves as a sales opportunity (on-site sales) and image promotion (companies showcase their products and services for local recognition).
In parallel, an arts and crafts market opens in the streets around the Blautalhalle and in the city center area. Artists, craftspeople, jewelry makers, ceramists, woodturners, and felt and textile workshops from Blaustein and the wider region present their work. The atmosphere is relaxed and individual — no industrial suppliers, but small workshops with a personal touch.
On Sunday, the retail stores in Blaustein's city center are open, typically between 1 PM and 6 PM. This open Sunday shopping opportunity is an additional incentive for visitors from the Alb-Donau district and Ulm to come to Blaustein's city center — the shops benefit from increased foot traffic, and you as a visitor can combine shopping with a market visit.
On Saturday evening, the Blaustein Music Night takes place — live concerts with regional bands at various venues in the city center. You can stroll between the venues and experience different music styles: rock cover bands, indie-pop acts, jazz combos, folk duos, and occasionally dialect artists. The music night is a great occasion for young Blaustein residents and students from nearby Ulm to experience the festival character of the weekend.
Blaustein, a town of around 16,000 inhabitants in the Alb-Donau district, is located in the western foothills of the Swabian Jura, on the river Blau, which flows through the town. The Blau is famous for its blue spring in Blaubeuren-Achern and for its character as a "blue intermittent river" in the Jura karst. The town was formed in 1968 by the merger of several predecessor municipalities and is now an economic and residential community in the catchment area of the nearby major city of Ulm. Worth seeing in the region are the Blautopf karst spring area, the Blaubeurer Felsen, and the Swabian Jura plateau.
The 2026 edition of the Blausteiner Herbst follows the established format. On the last weekend of September, the trade fair, arts and crafts market, and music night come together — the economic and cultural autumn highlight of the Swabian Alb municipality.
Organizers are the Association of Self-Employed Blaustein (VSB) and the City of Blaustein.
