26th edition of the free rock open-air in Klosterhof Söflingen with Bonfire headliner
There aren't many free rock festivals in Germany that have lasted for over 25 years — the Blaurock Open Air is a rare exception. For the 26th time, the historic Klosterhof Söflingen in Ulm's western district of Söflingen will transform into an open-air stage on June 12th and 13th, 2026. The festival has been „umsonst & draußen" (free and outdoors) since its inception — completely free and under the open sky; it's financed by sponsors, beverage sales, and club work.
The program is well-structured. Admission on both days is 6:30 PM, with bands alternating every 60-90 minutes.
Saturday headliner Bonfire is one of the most famous southern German hard rock bands of the 1980s. Founded in Ingolstadt in 1986, they achieved international success with their albums „Don't Touch the Light" (1986) and „Fire Works" (1987). In 2026, the band celebrates its 40th anniversary — the concert at Klosterhof Söflingen is part of the anniversary tour. Expect a classic hard rock show with twin-guitar solos, anthemic choruses, and the unbroken frontman presence of Claus Lessmann.
The Klosterhof Söflingen around the former Klarissen-Kloster (Clarissine convent) Söflingen offers the festival's unusual setting. The convent was founded in 1239 and shaped the district for centuries; today, the historic buildings house the Meinloh-Forum — a socio-cultural center with event spaces. During the Blaurock Open Air, the convent's inner courtyard becomes the festival meadow, with the stage set up in front of the historic walls. The atmosphere is intimate — no mass areas, but a contained, almost home-like concert vibe steeped in history.
The district of Söflingen is located west of Ulm and was only incorporated into Ulm in 1905. Until then, it was an independent market town with a convent, market, and its own traditions. Today, the Klarissen-Kloster, the Söflinger Marktplatz (market square), and the vibrant local life characterize the district. From Ulm main station or Ulm Minster, you can reach Söflingen via tram line 1 — the Söflingen terminus is just a few minutes from Klosterhof.
Ulm, the independent city in southeastern Baden-Württemberg on the Danube, has around 130,000 inhabitants and is famous for the Ulmer Münster with the tallest church tower in the world (161.53 m). The university city, home to several high-tech companies, is also the birthplace of Albert Einstein. Across the Danube bridge, you can reach Neu-Ulm in Bavaria — the twin city spans two federal states. The Blaurock Open Air is one of the most well-known festivals in Ulm's music scene.
The 26th edition of the Blaurock Open Air is celebrated with a special headliner: Hard rock legend Bonfire celebrates its 40th band anniversary in 2026 and will perform on Saturday evening at Klosterhof Söflingen. The entire festival remains true to its concept — six bands over two evenings, free admission, volunteer catering, intimate atmosphere in the historic Klosterhof.
Travel is recommended by tram line 1 from Ulm main station.
Admission completely free. Food and drinks at fair club prices — served by volunteers.
Best option: Tram line 1 from Ulm main station to the final stop Söflingen (10 minutes), then walk about 5 minutes towards Söflinger Marktplatz and through the historic gate into Klosterhof. If coming by car: A8 exit Ulm-West, then Söflingen — parking in the surrounding residential streets.
Completely free. Food and drinks available on-site at fair prices — served by volunteer helpers from the Blaurock association.
Arriving early is worthwhile — Klosterhof has limited space, and it will be crowded for the Bonfire show on Saturday evening. If you want a good spot in the Klosterhof atrium, it's best to join the queue starting at 6:30 PM.
