43rd edition of the renowned Pentecost pottery market in the castle courtyard
The Oberbergischer Töpfermarkt in Denklingen has been a fixture of German ceramic markets for over four decades. In 2026, it celebrates its 43rd edition — the date, as always, is the Pentecost weekend, this year May 24th and 25th. The venue is the historic castle courtyard of Denklingen, a district of the municipality of Reichshof in the Oberbergischer Kreis.
On both days, stalls with ceramics of all kinds line up: tableware and functional ceramics, garden ceramics with bird baths and planters, jewelry ceramics, decorative and artistic objects. The exhibiting potters come from all over Germany — Westerwald, Hesse, Saxony, Bavaria — as well as from neighboring countries (Netherlands, Belgium, France). Most participants work in their own workshops and use the market for direct sales to end customers.
The historic Denklingen castle courtyard provides the backdrop — a central facility of the district where commercial work was carried out until the 19th century. Today, the courtyard is a listed building and is used for events like this. The sightlines, the cobblestones, and the historic walls give the market a profile that clearly sets it apart from typical town festival market offerings.
Characteristic of the pottery market are the consultation sessions at the stalls. Potters and ceramic artists explain care, firing techniques, glazes, and decorative trends. Those who come with specific ideas — for their own kitchen or garden, for example — will usually find custom-made items or can have something made after the market.
The organizer is the Heimat- und Verschönerungsverein Denklingen e.V., a classic local heritage association that has been organizing the market since the 1980s. Further information is available from the Reichshof Tourist Office (Telephone 02265-470).
