About Engel, Licht & Meer
Engel, Licht & Meer — edition 2026
Four Days of Advent in the Kurpark
For the 3rd Advent weekend in 2026, the Binz Christmas Market » Engel, Licht & Meer « opens its stalls in the Binz Kurpark from December 10th to 13th. Four days of programming with a Nordic-Baltic focus, horse-drawn carriages, a carousel, a Christmas tree auction, and a dense program of stage events and storytelling.
Admission is free. The opening hours are staggered so that Thursday serves as a shortened opening day, Friday and Saturday as main market days, and Sunday as a family day. The stalls will largely be supplied by regional vendors from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and friendly Scandinavian producers.

Weather and Recommendations
In December on the Baltic Sea coast, it's cold and damp – wear warm shoes, a hat, and a scarf. For a break, it's recommended to step into one of the surrounding cafés or hotel lobbies.
A Christmas Market That Considers the Baltic Sea
If you travel through the Baltic Sea resorts during the Advent weeks, you'll quickly notice: the North ticks differently. Instead of gingerbread hearts and Alpine folk music, smoked fish, Glögg, mulled wines with North German berry accents, and Nordic light design shape the atmosphere. The Binz Christmas Market, under the title »Engel, Licht & Meer«, turns this regional peculiarity into a distinct concept: Nordic-Baltic specialties, plenty of candlelight, a stage program with Nordic songs – and all this in the spacious Kurpark directly behind the beach promenade.
The Venue: Binz Kurpark
The Kurpark is located between Heinrich-Heine-Straße and the beach promenade, just a few steps from the Kurhaus, the pier, and the train station. With old trees, winding paths, and several clearings, it offers a much more atmospheric backdrop than the typical town square Christmas market – on clear December evenings, you can hear the Baltic Sea roaring in the background, and the light installations in the park enhance the mood. This makes the market particularly attractive for families and couples.
What to Expect
- Baltic and Nordic Specialties — Smoked fish, licorice products, Scandinavian baked goods, Glögg, and berry mulled wines
- Horse-drawn Carriages — Rides through the park and the spa district
- Carousel — for the youngest guests, in a classic nostalgic style
- Christmas Tree Auction — a specialty of this market: festively decorated Christmas trees are publicly auctioned
- Stories by the Fire — Storytelling format for families around an open fire pit in the park
- Nordic Singing — Choirs and vocal ensembles from the region with a Scandinavian-influenced repertoire
- Visits from St. Nicholas and Angels for children
How the Visit Feels
Those who know Binz in the summer – beach, promenade, hustle and bustle – will be surprised by the winter face of the Baltic Sea resort. In December, it's quiet, the Bäderarchitektur (resort architecture) shines in a different light, and the Christmas market feels less like a tourist attraction and more like a genuine regional event. Residents from the entire Vorpommern-Rügen district come, as do Advent guests from Berlin and Hamburg. The pace is slow, the atmosphere is familiar, and the lighting is good.
Is the Journey Worth It?
If you haven't experienced Binz or the island of Rügen in winter yet, the Christmas market is a good reason to visit. The season in December is much quieter and cheaper than in summer; hotels and guesthouses have availability, restaurants are more relaxed, and the beaches in the winter light are unexpectedly beautiful. A short trip combining the market, beach, and spa visit (Binz has several wellness hotels with Baltic Sea views) works particularly well here.
