The largest district festival in Hamburg's East
BilleVue is not an ordinary neighbourhood festival. What began in 2005 as a small community gathering in Hamburg's East is today Hamburg's largest district festival east of the Alster — with over 200 participating actors from business, social organisations, culture, and education, as well as around 800 volunteers. The festival stands for the self-assertion of a district that was long framed in discourse as a social hotspot — and is now redefining itself through culture, engagement, and shared celebrations.
On the main stage at Öjendorfer Marktplatz, a packed live programme alternates on Saturdays from 1 PM to 11 PM and Sundays from 1 PM to 6 PM — pop, world music, hip-hop, classical acts, children's bands. In addition, there are hands-on activity booths from clubs and initiatives, culinary diversity from Billstedt's communities, and a programme for children.
Billstedt is located in the Hamburg-Mitte district, east of the main train station, framed by Öjendorfer Park and Öjendorfer Friedhof. With around 70,000 inhabitants, Billstedt is one of Hamburg's largest districts and is characterised by particularly high cultural diversity — families with roots in Turkey, Poland, Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, West Africa, and many other countries live here. BilleVue is a mirror and a stage for this diversity.
The organiser is BilleVue GbR, a coalition of around 200 local actors. The Kultur Palast Hamburg, one of the most important socio-cultural centres in eastern Hamburg, is closely involved. The festival is one of the largest exemplary civic festivals in the Hanseatic city.
As in previous years, the BilleVue District Festival is planned for the first weekend of September — in 2026, this would be September 5 and 6. Official confirmation will follow in spring 2026 via the websites of BilleVue GbR and Kultur Palast Hamburg.
In 2026, the festival is also expected to follow the proven format: main stage at Öjendorfer Marktplatz, live programme on Saturday from 1 PM to 11 PM, and on Sunday from 1 PM to 6 PM. In addition, over 200 participating actors from business, social initiatives, and culture, hands-on activity booths, culinary diversity, and a dedicated children's programme. Around 800 volunteers support the festival.
The specific line-up will be confirmed in the summer months of 2026. In past years, artists such as Rolf Zuckowski and his colourful flock of birds have performed on the BilleVue stage — the Hamburg children's music classic fits BilleVue's district festival identity.
The full line-up and final date confirmation will be published on billevue.de and kph-hamburg.de/projekte/billevue.
