53rd District Music Festival and 175th Anniversary of the Betzigau Music Association
The Betzigau Music Association e.V. is one of the oldest and most musically distinguished brass bands in the Allgäu. Founded in 1851, it will celebrate 175 years of club history in 2026. On this occasion, it is hosting the 53rd District Music Festival of District 6 (Allgäu/Swabia) in the Allgäu Music Association – the biggest brass music event of the year in the region. The venue is the municipality of Betzigau in the Oberallgäu district, a traditional music community not far from Kempten.
The festival program is divided into two parts. The competition performances will take place from April 24–26, 2026, in the Betzigau school gymnasium: Bands from the district will perform before a jury in various difficulty levels. The actual festival weekend from July 16 to 19, 2026, begins on Thursday with the traditional star march of the participating bands and the opening in the festival tent. Friday and Saturday feature festival evenings with live music and prominent Allgäu bands. The highlight is the grand festival parade on Sunday, July 19, with numerous traditional costume and music associations from the Allgäu.
The Allgäu is one of the most densely populated brass music regions in Central Europe. Virtually every municipality maintains its own music association, many dating back to the 19th century. District music festivals rotate among the member associations every few years – they are the most important gathering places for regional brass music. With the 53rd District Music Festival, Betzigau continues a piece of Allgäu music history while celebrating its own 175th anniversary.
The 53rd Bezirksmusikfest in Betzigau 2026 is the largest brass music event in the Allgäu festival calendar and also the anniversary celebration of the Betzigau Music Association (175 years, founded 1851). The festival weekend begins on Thursday, July 16, with the traditional star march of the participating bands and the opening in the festival tent. Friday and Saturday feature festival evenings with live music from prominent Allgäu and regional bands. The highlight is the grand festival parade on Sunday, July 19, through the municipality of Betzigau.
The competition performances take place on April 24, 25, and 26, 2026, in the Betzigau school gymnasium – a competition for bands in various difficulty levels before a jury. The official opening ceremony with district representatives and local politicians already took place at the former festival venue – the Betzigau Music Association presented classical pieces and polkas, as well as the piece Fiskinatura, with which they became the best band in the upper level in Wildpoldsried in 2013.
Festival grounds are freely accessible. Tickets for selected festival evenings are offered via the organizer's website. Food and drinks in the festival tent are paid for on-site. Sources: musikkapelle-betzigau.de, kreisbote.de.
