The Berlinale Series Market Profile

Since 2015, the Berlinale Series Market has been the younger, rapidly growing sister format to the Berlinale's European Film Market (EFM). While the EFM specializes in feature films, the Series Market focuses on the world of drama series, documentary series, and streaming formats – a market that has matured into its own discipline since the boom of streaming platforms from 2015 onwards. In 2026, the market will take place for the 12th time. The venue is the CinemaxX at Potsdamer Straße 5 / Voxstraße – the multiplex directly at Potsdamer Platz, which traditionally serves as an industry hub during the Berlinale.

Program Structure

The Series Market consists of several parallel programs:

• Series Market Selects – the central selection: in 2026, there will be 17 drama series (scripted) and 3 documentary series from around the world, shown as promos, pilot episodes, or first episodes. Program focus: creative innovation and international market potential.
• Co-Production Market - Series Pitches – pitch sessions where producers present their yet-to-be-financed series projects to an international panel.
• Conferences and Panels – thematic panels on trends in series production: AI, Co-Productions, Streamer Strategies, Internationalization, Diversity Mandates.
• Showcase Presentations – studios and streamers present their 2026/2027 pipeline.
• Networking Events – receptions, country showcases, cocktail receptions.

New Features 2026

In 2026, the Berlinale, together with Studio Babelsberg, is launching the new "Studio Babelsberg Production Excellence Award" – an award for outstanding production quality. Additionally, Morocco will be present as the Country in Focus, with a curated selection of Moroccan and North African series productions. The partnership with Iberseries & Platino Industria (Madrid) is being deepened: a dedicated Germany & Ibero-America Series Match program brings together German and Spanish/Portuguese-American producers for 1:1 meetings. Special attention this year will be paid to German series such as Westend Girl and 4 Blocks Zero.

Industry Access and Accreditation

The Series Market is not a public festival: access is only possible with industry accreditation ("Industry Badge" from the Berlinale). Accredited attendees include producers, broadcasters, commissioners, distributors, agency representatives, and journalists. Accreditation conditions and fees will be published on the Berlinale website. Nevertheless, the Series Market shapes the public perception of the Berlinale: the series shown here first influence the streaming program worldwide for the coming 12 months.
