31st Kulturbeutel-Festival
With its 31st edition in 2026, the Kulturbeutel-Festival reaches a remarkable level of maturity. What began in 1990 as a small festival by the Kinder- und Jugendtheater Speyer has now become an established date in the South German cabaret calendar β a must-attend event for theatre lovers, families, and cabaret audiences.
Ten Days of Theatre in the Alter Stadtsaal
The Alter Stadtsaal Speyer is the home of the Kulturbeutel-Festival. For ten days, the hall becomes the festival's focal point β with productions from all over the German-speaking world, a dense programme, and a festival atmosphere where artists, audiences, and organizers come together closely.
Theatre, Cabaret, Music, Puppet Theatre
The programme profile is broad. Theatre β including both classic drama productions in small formats and experimental theatre forms, independent groups, solo productions. Cabaret β political and literary cabaret, often featuring solo artists. Music β from chanson and singer-songwriters to experimental musical performances. Puppet Theatre β puppet, marionette, and object theatre, often focusing on new forms beyond traditional puppetry.
Kinder- und Jugendtheater Speyer as Organizer
The Kinder- und Jugendtheater Speyer e.V. is the organizer and shapes the festival with its artistic direction. The theatre has been an important player in the Speyer cultural scene since the 1980s, combining its own productions, guest performances, and festival work. The Kulturbeutel-Festival is the association's major annual event.
Cooperation with the City of Speyer
The City of Speyer is a cooperation partner, supporting the festival logistically and financially. This partnership ensures continuity β the festival is part of the city's cultural activities and enjoys planning security, even in financially challenging times for the independent cultural scene.
