Germany's Largest Undeveloped Market Square

With approximately 5 hectares of space, the Heider Marktplatz is Germany's largest undeveloped market square. This exceptional expanse — right in the city center of Heide — is the prerequisite for a real large-scale Kirmes to be set up on the market square. The Heider Frühjahrsmarkt is the first of the annual large market events in Heide, followed by the Herbstmarkt and the Heider Hohnbeer.

Ten Days of Boom

Over ten days, around 60 showmen are present on the market square. The 2026 program includes:

• Zombie Coaster — high-speed roller coaster with a horror theme
• 38-meter Ferris wheel — views over Heide and the Dithmarschen marshland
• X-Flight — high-wheel pendulum attraction
• Spaß Allee (new in 2026) — family funhouse with a mirror maze, obstacles, and slides
• Mach 1 — fast rotation roller coaster
• 9-D Action Cinema (new in 2026) — interactive motion cinema
• Bumper cars, Break Dancer, Wave flyer, Octopus, Polyp
• Children's carousels and Flying Star
• Shooting galleries, lucky dips, dart throwing, gingerbread stalls

Special Dates in the Program

In 2026, the organizers are bringing some highlights for the whole family:

• Sunday, March 15 — Paw Patrol Day (mascot appearances for the youngest guests)
• Tuesday, March 17 — Disney Day with appearances by popular Disney characters
• Saturday, March 21, 9 PM — Grand Fireworks Display over the market square

Opening Hours

The market runs daily:

• Sunday to Thursday — until 10 PM
• Friday and Saturday — until 11 PM

During the day (before noon), the carousels and stalls are usually quieter, making them interesting for families with small children; in the evening, the atmosphere picks up with the lighting of the carousels.

Heide and the Dithmarschen Marshland

Heide is the district town of Dithmarschen — the northern marsh region between the Eider and Elbe rivers. The Frühjahrsmarkt is one of the most important large events in the region and attracts visitors from all over Schleswig-Holstein, from the North Sea coast to Lübeck and Hamburg. The combination of a classic North German Kirmes and a big-city atmosphere — on a small-town market square — creates its special character.
