Spring Festival in Bensberg

Bensberg is one of the liveliest districts of Bergisch Gladbach, the district town of the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis (Cologne administrative district). With around 17,000 inhabitants and Bensberg Castle as its historical landmark, the district has a distinct profile. The Spring Festival in Bensberg, organized by the Bensberg Trade Association (IBH) together with event organizer XDREAM-Events, has been the kick-off festival of the Bensberg event season in spring for years.

Inauguration of the New Schlossstraße

The 2026 edition is exceptional: parallel to the Spring Festival, the Schlossstraße, completely redesigned after several years of construction, will be ceremonially opened. The street was redesigned according to the concept "Street of Encounter" — traffic-calmed, with seating areas, new trees, new lighting, and barrier-free access to shops. The renovation project was financed by federal and state funding as part of the NRW urban development program.

Opening Ceremony with Minister Scharrenbach

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 3 PM, the NRW Minister for Heimat, Kommunales, Bau und Digitalisierung (Home Affairs, Municipalities, Construction, and Digitalization), Ina Scharrenbach, will officially open the new Schlossstraße together with Mayor Marcel Kreutz and First Deputy Mayor Ragnar Migenda. The ceremonial ceremony is the main political event of the weekend — after which the entire festival area along the street will open.

Booths, Music, Children's Program

On both days, booths along Schlossstraße will open at 11 AM — local businesses will present themselves, food stalls will offer culinary specialties (sweet and savory), and drinks from stalls. Music program Saturday: Brass trio from 3 PM to 4 PM (parallel to the opening), band HanderCover from 6 PM to 8 PM (Pop and Rock cover songs). Sunday: Festival service from 11 AM to 12 PM in the nearby parish church. For children, there will be games, craft activities, and face painting.

IBH Promotion: Vouchers with 10% Bonus

A special feature of the Bensberg Spring Festival are the vouchers sold by the Bensberg Trade Association (IBH) at their own booth: for a 100 Euro voucher purchase, you get 110 Euros worth of shopping value in Bensberg's stores. The promotion supports local retail and has been offered alongside the Spring Festival for years.

Location and Travel

Schlossstraße is the central shopping street in Bensberg, within walking distance of Bensberg Castle and the parish church. Travel by public transport: Stadtbahn line 1 from Cologne (final stop Bensberg). By car: A4 exit Bensberg, parking garages in the district. About 12 kilometers from Cologne, around 35 minutes by Stadtbahn.
