Largest Volksfest on the Lower Rhine — Tradition since 1539, over 180 rides
The Beecker Kirmes is one of the oldest Volksfests in the western Ruhr area — its tradition dates back to 1539. This makes it significantly older than the Cranger Kirmes (since 1449 as a horse market, in its current form since 1888) and it is one of the constants of folk culture in the northern Lower Rhine region. From Friday, July 3rd to Tuesday, July 7th, 2026, the market square of Duisburg-Beeck will open for five days of Kirmes (fair) operations.
With over 180 rides, the Beecker Kirmes is not only historically significant but also quantitatively one of the major Volksfests in North Rhine-Westphalia. The program includes a Ferris wheel, roller coasters, loopings, classic carousels, haunted houses, shooting galleries, dice stalls — the full spectrum of modern and traditional fairground rides.
The Kirmes runs with a staggered schedule:
Several beer tents complement the rides — with beer (König Pilsener as the main partner), live music, and party music late into the night. The food mile ranges from classic bratwurst and fries to potato pancakes, currywurst, and chicken, as well as international specialties and sweets (almonds, crêpes, cotton candy, ice cream).
The traditional conclusion on Tuesday evening is a grand fireworks display — one of the better ones of the summer in Duisburg, with surprising scale for a neighborhood festival. The fireworks are not only the highlight of the Kirmes but also one of the popular summer pyrotechnic events in western NRW.
Beeck is a district in the north of Duisburg, shaped by the city's industrial past — steel, harbor, rolling mills. The Kirmes is one of the important identity-forming events for the neighborhood and attracts visitors from the entire western Ruhr area, the Lower Rhine, and even from the Dutch border over the five days.
In the state of NRW, the Beecker Kirmes is part of the dense Volksfest landscape of the Ruhr area and the Lower Rhine. Main sponsors are Stadtwerke Duisburg, Wirtschaftsbetriebe Duisburg, Rheinfels, and König Pilsener. The city supports the festival organizationally and through traffic planning.
The 2026 edition of the Beecker Kirmes runs from July 3rd to 7th and follows the proven five-day format with a family afternoon on Sunday and a fireworks finale on Tuesday. On the Beeck market square, Ferris wheel, roller coasters, and classic stalls are arranged in close proximity.
Traffic and closures: A42 exit "Du-Beeck", public transport tram 901 / bus 907.
Free admission. Prices for rides and refreshments vary by vendor, typical market rates.
By public transport: Tram line 901 and bus line 907, both with the stop "Beeck Denkmal" directly at the festival grounds. By car: A42 exit "Du-Beeck". Parking is available in the surrounding streets — limited on weekends, public transport recommended.
Free. Rides and refreshments are paid for separately.
Sunday is Family Day with reduced prices at some rides. If you want to see the fireworks: Tuesday evening from 10 PM, find a spot — Beecker Marktplatz or surrounding streets. Those who prefer to avoid crowds should come on Friday or Monday afternoon.
