About Barbarossamarkt
Barbarossamarkt — edition 2026
In 2026, the Barbarossamarkt celebrates its 15th edition. As in previous years, Bahnstraße opens its market stalls between 11:30 AM and 6:00 PM — arts and crafts, regional products, fashion, toys, and food stalls. The Erlenbach shops participate in the Sunday shopping event (opening from 12 PM).
The ceremonial beer tapping marks the start of the festival. Live music accompanies the market day, and a free flea market area for citizens complements the program.

Spring on the Bavarian Untermain
Erlenbach am Main is located in the Miltenberg district on the Main loop of the Bavarian Untermain, shortly before the border with Hesse. The town is part of the historical region that belonged to the Staufen sphere of influence since the High Middle Ages. The Barbarossamarkt commemorates Frederick I Barbarossa (1122-1190), the Staufen emperor who travelled through the region several times.
Market, Music, Sunday Shopping
The 15th edition of the Barbarossamarkt extends over Bahnstraße, part of Franz-Bardroff-Straße, Dr.-Vits-Straße, Rathausstraße, and the upper part of Lindenstraße. 60 to 70 stalls present arts and crafts, fashion, toys, and regional products. In parallel, local shops open their doors — the Barbarossamarkt is an important Sunday shopping event for the region. Local associations treat their guests to bratwurst, coffee and cake, cold drinks, and regional specialities.
Organizers and Opening
Behind the market is the Verein für Handel & Gewerbe Erlenbach e.V. (Association for Trade & Commerce Erlenbach), which has been organizing the market for 15 years. The symbolic kick-off is the ceremonial beer tapping by the association's chairwoman and the deputy mayor. A flea market area for citizens is also part of the concept — free stalls are allocated.
Bavarian Untermain as a Backdrop
The Bavarian Untermain (Aschaffenburg — Miltenberg — Wertheim) is its own cultural landscape, culturally closer to Hesse and Baden-Württemberg than to Bavaria. The region is known for its vineyards, half-timbered towns, and active club life. The Barbarossamarkt fits into this tradition — as a small but quality-oriented city festival with a clear regional focus.
