On the weekend before the first Advent, the copper mine 'Grube Wilhelmine' in Sommerkahl transforms into an atmospheric Barbaramarkt. In front of and underground – in the only show mine in the Spessart and Northern Bavaria – exhibitors offer arts and crafts and minerals. The holy patron saint of miners, Saint Barbara, gives the market its name. Blacksmith demonstrations in the mine forge, a children's carousel, Clown Klinki, and mulled wine at the barbecue hut create a special Advent atmosphere in an extraordinary location.

Getting There

Sommerkahl is located in the district of Aschaffenburg in the Spessart, accessible via state roads from Schöllkrippen and Aschaffenburg. Special traffic regulations apply during the Barbaramarkt; follow the local signs. Parking facilities are signposted.
