The Grube Wilhelmine
The 'Grube Wilhelmine' in Sommerkahl in the Spessart is the only show mine in the Spessart and Northern Bavaria. The former copper mine can be explored on guided tours and is a special place of mining history in the region.
Market in Honour of Saint Barbara
Saint Barbara is the patron saint of miners – her feast day is December 4th. The Barbaramarkt traditionally takes place on the weekend before the first Advent and combines this mining tradition with an atmospheric Advent market.
In Front Of and Underground
The special feature: The market takes place in front of and underground. In the tunnels and in front of the mine, exhibitors offer arts and crafts and minerals – an Advent market like no other.
Programme and Atmosphere
The regular programme includes a blacksmith demonstration in the historic mine forge, a children's carousel, the popular Clown Klinki with his colourful children's entertainment, and mulled wine and refreshments at the barbecue hut. The mix of mine ambience, crafts, and Advent spirit is what makes the market so appealing.
