The 2026 Ballonglühen is confirmed in the BHV Magdeburg-Diesdorf's community calendar for September 12th. A day of district festival with a musical program, children's activities, and the nightly balloon glow as the visual highlight.

During the day, Diesdorf's associations present themselves with stalls, games, and small stage shows. Bratwurst, fries, and drink stands form the culinary base, the bouncy castle belongs to the little ones, and live music from the region alternates on the small stage. As soon as the sun disappears behind the houses, the hot air balloon teams set up their envelopes on the festival grounds – and the actual balloon glow begins.

Getting There

Take tram line 1 to Diesdorf, then a approx. 10-minute walk to the festival grounds. By car: Residential streets are narrow, please use surrounding parking areas.

Free admission to the district festival and balloon glow.

Best Time

The actual balloon glow takes place at dusk – mid-September around 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Arriving early is worthwhile, the supporting program starts in the afternoon.

There are summer evenings when Diesdorf-Süd suddenly becomes the most beautiful spot in Magdeburg – the moment when the hot air balloons light up in the twilight, bathing the festival grounds in an orange-red flickering light, is one of them. The Ballonglühen Diesdorf is one of the most charming events in Magdeburg's west, organized by the Bürger- und Heimatverein BHV Magdeburg-Diesdorf e.V., which has been supporting the district's community life with dedication and attention to detail for years.

Before the actual glow, a classic district festival takes place during the day: associations introduce themselves, a bouncy castle attracts the little ones, a stage features regional music, and bratwurst and beer provide the necessary sustenance. As dusk falls, the meadow fills up – and then the burners of the balloons are ignited synchronously. Diesdorf belongs to the independent city of Magdeburg in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, and its district character makes the festival a real insider tip compared to the larger festivals in the city center.
