Long Night of Culture in the City Centre on the Eve of Winter
The Bad Doberan Night of Culture was launched in 2007 and has since been the cultural highlight of the autumn off-season in Bad Doberan. From late afternoon onwards, the entire city centre – including Mollistraße, Markt, Kamp, and many side streets – transforms into an open stage. Shops, bars, restaurants, museums, galleries, and event venues open their doors and offer a programme.
The programme includes live music in bars and on street corners, dance performances, readings in fashion boutiques, concerts by the district music school, choral singing in historic halls, exhibition openings and displays, city tours and lectures, street food stalls, and culinary offerings – including mulled wine as soon as it gets cooler. Even bank branches and town halls open their spaces for artistic interventions.
Mollistraße – Bad Doberan's main street and the route of the historic narrow-gauge railway »Molli« – forms the heart of the festival. With its listed bourgeois houses, cafés, art galleries, and small shops, it provides an atmospheric backdrop for the Night of Culture.
Bad Doberan is located in the Rostock district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) and is a city rich in cultural history, boasting the Doberan Minster (Brick Gothic, founded in 1171), the Klosterhof, and the nearby Baltic Sea resort of Heiligendamm. The Night of Culture is one of the most important social events of the year – a thank you for the season before winter sets in.
The 18th Bad Doberan Night of Culture will open the entire city centre on Sunday, October 4th, 2026, from 3 PM to 11 PM for a nine-hour cultural hopping experience. Since 2007, this night has been the social and cultural highlight of Doberan's autumn off-season.
