Auenstein in the Bottwartal

Auenstein is one of the three districts of the Ilsfeld municipality (alongside Schozach and Helfenberg) in the Heilbronn district (AGS 08125). With just under 1,500 inhabitants, it is located in the Bottwartal valley on the slopes of the Heuchelberger Höhe — a wine-growing region at the transition from the Heuchelberg to the Stromberg. The village is small, manageable, characterized by viticulture, commuting, and active club life. The annual street festival on the third weekend in June is the highlight of the club calendar.

Two Days of Festivities on Ochsenweg

The Ochsenweg — the central street through the old town center — will be closed for the two festival days. Local clubs set up their stands along the street: sports clubs, music clubs, the fire department, singing clubs, scouts. A small stage in a central square or in front of the town hall hosts music and club performances.

Program Classics of a Württemberg Village Festival

The 2026 edition follows the classic schedule of a Württemberg village festival:

• Saturday evening, June 13, 2026: Festival opening with keg tapping, opening music, first communal meal, live music late into the night
• Sunday, June 14, 2026: Festival service in the morning, brunch with brass music, lunch (Schäufele, Bratwurst, Maultaschen), family program in the afternoon, festival winding down in the evening

Bottwartal Wine and Swabian Gastronomy

The catering offers Swabian-Württemberg classics: Schäufele (smoked pork loin), Maultaschen in broth, Käsespätzle, Bratwurst, and steak from the grill. For wine, local Bottwartal wine is served — Trollinger, Lemberger, and Riesling from the surrounding vineyards. Coffee and cake in the afternoon — the club ladies are known for their cakes.

The Auensteiner Straßenfest is not a tourist event, but a genuine village club festival. Those who want to experience Württemberg beyond the big Volksfeste will find an authentic atmosphere here: small stands, personal encounters, brass music, Swabian food, and the cozy charm of a Bottwartal village festival. Admission is free, and prices at the club stands are moderate.

Getting to Auenstein

By car via the L 1100 from Ilsfeld or the L 1101 from Beilstein. By train to Heilbronn or Marbach am Neckar, then take bus 643 to Auenstein. Parking is available along the main street, partially limited on festival days.
