The Concept — Art in Public Space
ARTmosphäre is an art project with a clear ambition: it brings art out of studios and galleries directly onto the street — right into the heart of Homburg's Old Town. On one summer Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., squares, pedestrian zones, and some backyards become a continuous exhibition area. Visitors can stroll, look, ask, buy — anything is possible. Free admission, no mandatory program, just art in public space.
The Diversity of Disciplines
ARTmosphäre consciously embraces all art forms — not just the classical ones. Exhibited works include:
- Painting and Graphics — Acrylic, oil, watercolor, drawing
- Sculpture — Stone, wood, metal, bronze
- Photography — Landscape, portrait, conceptual photography
- Jewelry — Goldsmiths, silversmiths, alternative materials
- Textile Art — Felting, weaving, embroidery (including computer embroidery)
- Glass and Ceramics
- Caricature and Portrait Drawing — often live before an audience
- Collage and Mixed Media
- Upcycling Art — Works made from recycled materials
- Lace and Bobbin Lace — traditional crafts
- Performance Art and action art in the squares
Professionals and Amateurs on Equal Footing
A special feature of ARTmosphäre: professionals and amateurs exhibit side by side. Professional artists with studios participate alongside hobby painters who are daring to show their work for the first time. This deliberately inclusive concept makes the event appealing — and a discovery tour for visitors. Artist applications for 2026 must be submitted by June 19, 2026.
Open Studios in the Surrounding Area
In parallel to the open-air gallery, some studios in the surrounding area open their doors to visitors — a kind of "open house" for the regional art scene. This creates a broader picture of the creative economy in Saarland and the Palatinate, reaching far beyond Homburg.
Homburg Cultural Society as Organizer
ARTmosphäre is organized by the Homburger Kulturgesellschaft gGmbH, which has been actively shaping the city's cultural profile for years — from beer hikes and classical concerts to ARTmosphäre. The gGmbH structure (non-profit limited liability company) ensures a mix of professional event organization and non-profit orientation.
Homburg in the Saarpfalz District
Homburg is the district and university town in the Saarpfalz district — with the Medical Faculty of Saarland University, it is an important higher education location. The city center, with its baroque Schlossberg (Castle Hill), Saalbau architecture, and historic pedestrian zone, offers an attractive backdrop for ARTmosphäre. Visitors can combine their art visit with a walk on Schlossberg or a trip to the nearby Römermuseum Schwarzenacker (Roman Museum Schwarzenacker).
