Running event for everyone at the Baggersee
The AOK MainCityRun has been the big running event in the city of Schweinfurt since 2022. For the 5th edition in 2026, TG 48 Schweinfurt is permanently relocating the event to a new location: the Baggersee on Niederwerrner Straße, next to the B268. The flat, fast course runs twice around a 10-kilometer loop along the Baggersee, just before Grafenrheinfeld and Schwebheim, then back to the event grounds.
The range of distances is deliberately broad, so that professionals, hobby runners, and families can all find a run:
The most important innovation for the 2026 edition is the separate Special Olympics classification in the school runs. This makes the MainCityRun one of the most inclusive running events in Main Franconia: athletes with intellectual disabilities will have their own classification and award ceremony categories within the regular event.
The MainCityRun on Saturday marks the start of the Deutsche Dienstrad MainCityTriathlon on Sunday, May 17, 2026. This makes the entire weekend a sports weekend at the Baggersee. Over 2,000 participants are expected over both days.
Schweinfurt (independent city) is located in the administrative district of Lower Franconia (Bavaria) on the Main River, nestled between the Haßberge, the Rhön, and the Franconian wine region. The city is an industrial location (ZF, SKF), but in recent years it has also become a growing sports location – the MainCityRun is part of this profile development.
The 5th AOK MainCityRun 2026 will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Baggersee on Niederwerrner Straße in Schweinfurt. As in 2025, the event will no longer be held in the city center but on the fast, flat Baggersee course.
The half marathon starts at 9:00 AM; the 21.1 km consist of two 10-km laps along the Baggersee towards Grafenrheinfeld and Schwebheim. In addition, the 10-kilometer run, the 5 km company run (team classification for Schweinfurt companies), the school runs over 1 and 3 km – for the first time in 2026 with its own Special Olympics classification – and the mini-run for the youngest participants will start.
TG 48 Schweinfurt expects over 2,000 participants, plus numerous helpers and spectators at the Baggersee. The following day, Sunday, May 17, 2026, the Deutsche Dienstrad MainCityTriathlon will follow.
