Annual club festival of the ASV Hafenlohr on the Main in the Spessart
The Anglerfest Hafenlohr is the traditional club festival of the Angelsportverein Hafenlohr – a fishing club with around 30 members in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart, in the Spessart foothills on the Main river. The venue is the festival grounds at the 'Anker' community and club house, the central meeting hall of the Hafenlohr municipality. The community hall, with seating for around 180, a club room, kitchen, bar, and inner courtyard, provides a suitable setting for the marquee and outdoor catering.
The culinary highlight is freshly caught fish from the club's own waters. The ASV manages stretches of the Main river, the municipal Eissee lake, and another club pond. At the Anglerfest, trout from the skewer grill, smoked carp, pike, and eel are served. The marquee kitchen also offers Franconian specialties – sausages, Schäuferla (pork shoulder), Brez'n (pretzels) – and Franconian beer on tap.
For years, the Anglerfest has been scheduled for the first Sunday in July – in 2026, this will be July 5, 2026. The festival date is anchored in the club calendar and the Hafenlohr municipality's event calendar. Catering typically starts in the late morning with a Frühschoppen (morning pint), lunch service through the early afternoon, and coffee and cake in the late afternoon.
Hafenlohr, with around 1,500 inhabitants, is a small municipality on the Main Spessart, located in the Main-Spessart district, between Marktheidenfeld and Lohr am Main. The village lies on the right bank of the Main river, framed by the Spessart Forest – one of Germany's largest contiguous deciduous forests. In addition to the 'Anker' community house, the municipality maintains a second community house in the Windheim district. Club life is vibrant: the volunteer fire department, ASV, sports club VfB Hafenlohr, singing club, and shooting club are the main pillars of the village festival calendar.
The Spessart, with its approximately 2,500 km² of forest area, is Bavaria's largest contiguous forest region. Hikers, cyclists, and mushroom pickers know the region as a sanctuary of tranquility and nature. Hafenlohr is situated on the eastern edge of the Spessart, directly on the Main river – a combination of river, forest, and village landscape that provides the atmospheric backdrop for the Anglerfest.
The Anglerfest Hafenlohr 2026 will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the festival grounds of the 'Anker' community and club house. The festival day begins with a Frühschoppen (morning pint) in the late morning, peaks in the early afternoon with lunch and fish specialties, and concludes in the late afternoon with coffee, cake, and convivial gathering.
